Abstract

The present invention provides combinations of cardiovascular therapeutic compounds for the prophylaxis or treatment of cardiovascular disease including hypercholesterolemia, atherosclerosis, or hyperlipidemia. Combinations disclosed include an HMG CoA reductase inhibitor combined with a cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) inhibitor.

Claims

1 - 31 . (canceled)

32 . A method for the prophylaxis or treatment of a hyperlipidemic condition comprising administering to a patient in need thereof a combination in unit dosage form wherein the combination comprises a first amount of an HMG CoA reductase inhibiting compound and a second amount of a cholesteryl ester transfer protein inhibiting compound wherein the first amount and the second amount together comprise an anti-hyperlipidemic condition effective amount of the compounds, and wherein said HMG CoA reductase inhibiting compound comprises atorvastatin and said cholesteryl ester transfer protein inhibiting compound comprises compound C-12 represented by:

     or enantiomers or racemates thereof.

33 . A method for the prophylaxis or treatment of an atherosclerotic condition comprising administering to a patient in need thereof a combination in unit dosage form wherein the combination comprises a first amount of an HMG CoA reductase inhibiting compound and a second amount of a cholesteryl ester transfer protein inhibiting compound wherein the first amount and the second amount together comprise an anti-atherosclerotic condition effective amount of the compounds, and wherein said HMG CoA reductase inhibiting compound comprises atorvastatin and said cholesteryl ester transfer protein inhibiting compound comprises compound C-12 represented by:

     or enantiomers or racemates thereof.

34 . A method for the prophylaxis or treatment of hypercholesteremia comprising administering to a patient in need thereof a combination in unit dosage form wherein the combination comprises a first amount of an HMG CoA reductase inhibiting compound and a second amount of a cholesteryl ester transfer protein inhibiting compound wherein the first amount and the second amount together comprise an anti-hypercholesteremic condition effective amount of the compounds, and wherein said HMG CoA reductase inhibiting compound comprises atorvastatin and said cholesteryl ester transfer protein inhibiting compound comprises compound C-12 represented by:

     or enantiomers or racemates thereof.
