Abstract

An athletic glove for racquet sports in specific for the game of tennis, which includes a elastic straps permanently fixed at one end between the thumb and index finger and non-permanently fixed at the other end to the rear wrist cuff. The glove covers the thumb and index finger, leaving the middle finger, ring finger and little finger uncovered whereby, giving the player tactility in feeling the racquet and not hinder the game, at the same time giving the stability to the wrist of player. The glove extends slightly over the palm and back of the hand and is secured to the hand around the wrist area by a strap of the like.

1. A glove used to support the wrist and help support the weight of a racquet while preserving the natural feel of the racquet: said glove comprising an interior surface, exterior surface, index finger portion, thumb portion, a partial palm piece and a partial back piece, a first elastic strap with first and second ends, a second elastic strap with first and second ends, and a wrist cuff with a first and second hook and loop attachment means; wherein the first elastic strap is attached to the interior surface of said glove by stitching said first end of the strap at a location on the back piece between said index finger portion and said thumb portion, said second end of said first elastic strap including a hook and loop attachment means, said back piece including first and second apertures; whereby the second end of the first strap extends through said first aperture and is removably attachable to the first hook and loop attachment means positioned on the wrist cuff, a second elastic strap also stitched at a first end thereof to the interior surface at the location on the back piece between said index finger portion and said thumb portion, whereby the second end of the second strap extends through said second aperture and is removably attachable to the second hook and loop attachment means positioned on the wrist cuff. 
     
     
       2. The glove as defined in claim 1, wherein the first elastic strap is adjustable in length and is adjustably engageable with the wrist cuff to change a distance between the first end of the strap and the wrist cuff, said first elastic strap thereby being adapted to slightly pull the wrist upward and backward. 
     
     
       3. An athletic glove used to support the wrist and help support the weight of an item of hand-held athletic equipment while preserving the natural feel of the equipment, said glove comprising:
 an interior surface adapted to contact a person's hand, and an exterior surface;   an index finger portion that at least partially covers the person's index finger;   a thumb portion that at least partially covers the person's thumb;   a palm piece that at least partially covers the person's palm;   a back piece that at least partially covers the back of the person's hand;   a wrist cuff; and   a first elastic strap having a first end and a second end; where the first end is permanently attached to the interior surface of the glove and the first elastic strap extends downwardly from a region between the index finger portion and the thumb portion toward the wrist cuff; and the second end of the first elastic strap is removably attachable to the wrist cuff; and   a first aperture defined in the back piece, and wherein a length of the first elastic strap that includes the second end, extends through the first aperture from the interior surface of the glove to the exterior surface thereof.   
     
     
       4. The glove as defined in claim 3, wherein the first aperture is defined in the back piece adjacent the wrist cuff. 
     
     
       5. The glove as defined in claim 3, wherein the exterior surface of the wrist cuff includes a first connector region of a hook and loop fastener and the second end of the first elastic strap includes a complementary hook and loop fastener that detachably engages with the first connector region. 
     
     
       6. The glove as defined in claim 3, further comprising a second elastic strap having a first and a second end; wherein the first end of the second elastic strap is permanently attached to the interior surface of the glove adjacent the first end of the first elastic strap, and the second elastic strap extends downwardly from a region disposed between the index finger portion and the thumb portion and toward the wrist cuff; and wherein the second end of the second elastic strap is selectively detachably engageable with the wrist cuff a spaced distance from the second end of the first elastic strap. 
     
     
       7. The glove as defined in claim 6, wherein the first and second elastic straps are individually and adjustably engageable with the wrist cuff to obtain the desired support of the person's wrist. 
     
     
       8. The glove as defined in claim 7, wherein one or both of the first elastic strap and second elastic strap are manufactured from a plurality of materials. 
     
     
       9. The glove as defined in claim 6, further comprising a second aperture defined in the back piece a spaced distance from the first aperture, and wherein a length of the second elastic strap that includes the second end thereof, extends through the second aperture and is detachably engageable with the exterior surface of the wrist cuff. 
     
     
       10. The glove as defined in claim 9, wherein the exterior surface of the wrist cuff includes a first connector region and a second connector region disposed a spaced distance from each other; wherein each of the first and second connector regions comprises a hook and loop fastener, and wherein the second end of each of the first and second elastic straps includes a complementary hook and loop fastener, and the second end of the first elastic strap is engageable with the first connector region and the second end of the second elastic strap is engageable with the second connector region. 
     
     
       11. The glove as defined in claim 3, wherein one or both of the index finger portion and the thumb portion are adapted to completely cover the associated index finger and thumb of the person's hand. 
     
     
       12. The glove as defined in claim 3, further comprising at least one additional finger portion disposed adjacent the index finger portion; and wherein the at least one additional finger portion is adapted to at least partially cover one additional finger of the person's hand. 
     
     
       13. The glove as defined in claim 12, further comprising three additional finger portions disposed adjacent the index finger portion, and wherein each of the index finger portion, the thumb portion and the three additional finger portions fully covers the fingers and thumbs of the person's hand. 
     
     
       14. The glove as defined in claim 3, wherein the palm piece and the back piece are secured together along a first edge remote from the wrist cuff and the index finger portion extends outwardly away from the first edge; and at least one hole is defined in the first edge adjacent the index finger portion and the at least one hole is adapted to receive at least one of the person's other fingers therethrough. 
     
     
       15. The glove as defined in claim 3, wherein the wrist cuff is adapted to encircle the person's wrist; and the wrist cuff further comprises:
 a vertical slit defined in the wrist cuff whereby a first area of the cuff is disposed on one side of the slit and a second area of the cuff is disposed on the other side of the slit;   a tab secured to the first area of the cuff and extending laterally toward the second area of the cuff,   an attachment means provided on the tab and the second area of the cuff; said attachment means permitting adjustable engagement of the tab with the second area.   
     
     
       16. The glove as defined in claim 3, wherein the first elastic strap is adjustable in length and is adjustably engageable with the wrist cuff to change a distance between the first end of the strap and the wrist cuff, said first elastic strap thereby being adapted to slightly pull the wrist upward and backward. 
     
     
       17. An athletic glove used to support the wrist and help support the weight of an item of hand-held athletic equipment while preserving the natural feel of the equipment, said glove comprising:
 an index finger portion that at least partially covers the person's index finger;   a thumb portion that at least partially covers the person's thumb;   a palm piece that at least partially covers the person's palm;   a back piece that at least partially covers the back of the person's hand;   a wrist cuff;   a first elastic strap having a first end and a second end; where the first end is permanently attached to one of the index finger portion, the thumb portion, the palm piece and the back piece, wherein the first elastic strap extends downwardly from a region disposed between the index finger portion and the thumb portion and toward the wrist cuff;   at least one first aperture provided in the back piece, wherein the first elastic strap passes through the at least one first aperture such that a first section of the first elastic strap is disposed in an interior of the glove and a second section thereof is disposed outside of the glove, and the second section includes the second end, and wherein the second end is selectively detachably engageable with an exterior surface of the wrist cuff.   
     
     
       18. The glove as defined in claim 17, further comprising:
 a second elastic strap having a first end and a second end, wherein the first end of the second elastic strap is permanently attached to one of the index finger portion, the thumb portion, the palm piece and the back piece and extends downwardly from a region disposed between the index finger portion and the thumb portion and toward the wrist cuff; and   at least one second aperture provided in the back piece a spaced distance from the at least one first aperture, wherein the second elastic strap passes through the at least one second aperture such that a first section of the second elastic strap is disposed in the interior of the glove and a second section of the second elastic strap is disposed outside of the glove, and the second section of the second elastic strap includes the second end thereof, and wherein the second end of the second elastic strap is selectively detachably engageable with the exterior surface of the wrist cuff a spaced distance from the second end of the first elastic strap.   
     
     
       19. The glove as defined in claim 18, further comprising three additional finger portions extending outwardly from the palm piece and the back piece adjacent the index finger portion; wherein the three additional finger portions are adapted to at least partially cover the middle finger, ring finger and little finger of the person's hand. 
     
     
       20. The athletic glove as defined in claim 17, wherein the first end of the first elastic strap comprises a portion of the first section of the first elastic strap. 
     
     
       21. An athletic glove used to support the wrist and help support the weight of an item of hand-held athletic equipment while preserving the natural feel of the equipment, said glove comprising:
 an interior surface and an exterior surface that include:   a palm piece adapted to cover the palm of a person's hand;   a back piece adapted to cover the back of the person's hand, wherein said palm and back pieces are joined together along a first edge;   five holes defined in the first edge at spaced intervals from each other, wherein a first of the holes is adapted to receive the person's thumb therethrough; a second of the holes is adapted to receive the person's index finger therethrough, a third of the holes is adapted to receive the person's middle finger therethrough; a fourth of the holes is adapted to receive the person's ring finger therethrough, and a fifth of the holes is adapted to receive the person's little finger therethrough;   a wrist cuff extending downwardly from both of the palm and back pieces opposite the first edge;   at least one elastic strap having a first end and a second end; where the first end is permanently attached to the interior surface of the glove intermediate the first and second holes; and   a first aperture defined in the back piece, and wherein a length of the at least one elastic strap that includes the second end, extends through the first aperture from the interior surface of the glove to the exterior surface thereof and the second end is selectively detachably engageable with an exterior surface of the wrist cuff; said elastic strap being adjustable in length to alter a distance between the first end of the at least one elastic strap and the wrist cuff.
