Claims

Abstract

A frame for rimless spectacles is provided which has no protuberances projecting from both surfaces of lenses, provides an improved effective field of view, and can be fabricated with ease. Blind holes are formed in nose- and temple-side edge surface portions of each spectacle lens, respectively. A pin-like projection is formed on each of nose-side and temple-side contact plates, and is inserted and fixed in the corresponding blind hole by using an adhesive.

What is claimed is:  
     
       1. A spectacle lens holding structure for use in rimless spectacles, comprising: 
       a lens holding member for holding a spectacle lens, said lens holding member having a surface which is disposed in contact with the spectacle lens and on which a projection is formed, the projection being inserted and fixed in a blind hold formed in an edge surface of the spectacle lens.  
     
     
       2. The spectacle lens holding structure according to claim  1 , wherein the projection is fixed in the blind hole by an adhesive. 
     
     
       3. The spectacle lens holding structure according to claim  2 , wherein the adhesive comprises any one selected from epoxy adhesives, acrylic adhesives, cyanoacrylate adhesives and anaerobic adhesives. 
     
     
       4. The spectacle lens holding structure according to claim  2 , wherein the adhesive is a two-pack type adhesive. 
     
     
       5. The spectacle lens holding structure according to claim  1 , wherein said lens holding member includes a bridge for connecting right and left spectacle lenses, nose-side contact plates arranged at opposite ends of the bridge, respectively, and a projection extending from each of the nose-side contact plates into the blind hole. 
     
     
       6. The spectacle lens holding structure according to claim  1 , wherein said lens holding member includes an endpiece connected to a temple, a pin member arranged at a distal end of the endpiece and having a projection formed thereon so as to extend into the blind hole, and a temple-side contact plate mounted to a base of the projection of the pin member. 
     
     
       7. The spectacle lens holding structure according to claim  6 , wherein the pin member comprises a U-shaped member having the projection formed at each of opposite ends thereof. 
     
     
       8. The spectacle lens holding structure according to claim  1 , wherein the projection has irregularities formed thereon. 
     
     
       9. The spectacle lens holding structure according to claim  1 , wherein the projection is a screw member which is inserted into another hole formed in said spectacle holding member. 
     
     
       10. The spectacle lens holding structure according to claim  1 , wherein the spectacle lens is mounted on a mount for semi-rimless spectacles. 
     
     
       11. The spectacle lens holding structure according to claim  1 , wherein the spectacle lens is made of a material selected from polyurethane resins, allyl resins and acrylic resins. 
     
     
       12. The spectacle lens holding structure according to claim  1 , wherein the blind hole is cut to be generally parallel with a curved surface of the lens. 
     
     
       13. Rimless spectacles comprising: 
       a lens holding member for holding a spectacle lens, said lens holding member having a surface which is disposed in contact with the spectacle lens and on which a projection is formed, the projection being inserted and fixed in a blind hole formed in an edge surface of the spectacle lens.  
     
     
       14. Rimless spectacles according to claim  13 , wherein the blind hole is cut to be generally parallel with a curved surface of the lens. 
     
     
       15. A spectacle lens holding method of rimless spectacles comprising the steps of: 
       filling a blind hole formed in an edge surface of a spectacle lens with adhesive; and  
       inserting and fixing a projection in the blind hole filled with adhesive, the projection being formed on a surface of a lens holding member and the surface being in contact with the spectacle lens.  
     
     
       16. The spectacle lens holding method of rimless spectacles according to claim  15 , wherein the blind hole is cut to be generally parallel with a curved surface of the lens. 
     
     
       17. A method for forming blind holes in an edge surface of a spectacle lens comprising: 
         providing a hole - cutting guide containing at least one guide - hole,    
         temporarily affixing said hole - cutting guide to a predetermined position on the edge surface of the spectacle lens where said blind holes are to be formed,    
       
         inserting a drill to form a blind hole at a predetermined position on the edge surface of the spectacle lens. 
       
     
     
       18. The method of claim  17 , wherein the providing of a hole- cutting guide includes providing said hole - cutting guide with a plurality of guide holes spaced apart from each other a preselected distance equal to a preselected distance between the blind holes to be formed in the edge surface of the spectacle lens.   
     
     
       19. The method of claim  17 , wherein the temporary affixing of said hole- cutting guide includes providing an adhesiveness to the surface of the hole - cutting guide contacting the edge surface of the spectacle lens to accurately maintain the position of the hole - cutting guide while drilling the blind holes.   
     
     
       20. The method of claim  17 , wherein providing a hole- cutting guide includes shaping the surface of the hole - cutting guide contacting the edge surface of the spectacle lens to correspond to the curved shape of the portion of said edge surface in which blind holes are to be made.   
     
     
       21. The method of claim  17 , wherein the drilling to form a blind hole includes providing a step- type drill, and inserting the step - type drill in a guide hole of said hole - cutting guide, and drilling the edge surface of the spectacle lens until a step portion of the drill abuts against said hole - cutting guide.   
     
     
       22. The method of claim  19  wherein the providing of an adhesiveness includes providing an adhesive double coated tape to the surface of the hole- cutting guide contacting the edge surface of the spectacle.   
     
     
       23. A hole- cutting guide for a drill that drills blind holes in an edge surface of a spectacle lens comprising:    
       
         a guide body with at least one guide hole extending in a first direction through said guide body,  
       
       
         said guide body having a surface extending in a second direction substantially perpendicular to said first surface, said surface having a shape corresponding to the curved shape of the portion of the edge surface of a spectacle lens in which a blind hole is to be formed. 
       
     
     
       24. The hole- cutting guide of claim  23  further including an adhesiveness material applied to the surface of the guide body having a shape corresponding to the curved shape of the portions of the edge surface of a spectacle lens in which a blind hole is to be formed.   
     
     
       25. The hole- cutting guide of claim  24  wherein said adhesiveness material is an adhesive double - coated tape.   
     
     
       26. A method for forming blind holes in an edge surface of a spectacle lens comprising: 
         providing a hole - cutting guide containing two guide holes spaced apart by a preselected distance corresponding to the desired distance between two blind holes to be formed in an edge surface of a spectacle lens;    
         affixing said hole - cutting guide to a predetermined position on said edge surface of a spectacle lens such that the guide holes are positioned over the locations on said edge surface where blind holes are to be formed;    
         inserting a step - type drill in one of said guide holes; and operating said drill to form a blind hole.   
     
     
       27. The method of claim  26 , wherein said drill is operated until a step portion of said drill abuts against said hole- cutting guide, whereby the depth of the blind hole is limited to the length of the drill below the step portion less the length of the through hole in which the drill is inserted.   
     
     
       28. Rimless spectacles manufactured according to the method comprising: 
         providing a hole - cutting guide containing at least one guide - hole,    
         temporarily affixing said hole - cutting guide to a predetermined position on the edge surface of the spectacle lens where said blind holes are to be formed,    
       
         inserting a drill to form a blind hole at a predetermined position on the edge surface of the spectacle lens.
