Abstract

A light blocking interior curtain for a vehicle windshield and side door windows that requires no periphery hardware or other fasteners that attach to the vehicle interior. The device is made of a flexible curtain material which covers the windshield and side door windows. The material covering the windshield portion, forms two horizontally aligned slits which allow the vehicle's existing sun visors to pass through and support the curtain. The slits are fitted with a visor pocket structure that encloses the sun visor and provides added support and strength to the curtain. The end portions of the curtain are fitted with horizontal protrusions attached to the outside facing surface and provide support for the side door window portion when held firmly between the glass and the door frame when the window is raised. To reduce the tendency of the material to sag between the visor supported areas, a tension adjusting feature is provided using touch fastener material attached to the curtain generally between horizontal slits and on the inside facing surface.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
I claim:

       1. A light blocking interior curtain for a vehicle windshield and side door windows comprising: a light blocking flexible curtain material having a top portion, a bottom portion, and two end portions; two horizontally aligned slits defining a perimeter and being disposed in said curtain material below said top portion and positioned an equal distance about a vertical centerline thereof, said horizontally aligned slits receiving sun visors associated with said vehicle windshield for supporting said curtain material; each of said end portions having disposed thereon on an outside facing surface thereof an elongated L-shaped channel member, said L-shaped channel members receiving an upper edge portion of said side door windows for supporting said curtain material; tension adjusting means comprising a first strip of touch fastener material secured horizontally on an inside facing surface thereof of said curtain material and spanning across said vertical centerline, and a second strip of touch fastener material secured to an end thereof of said first strip thereby forming a pull tab.

       2. The light blocking interior curtain of claim 1 further comprising a visor pocket structure including a pocket closed on three ends with a fourth end thereof being open and secured about the perimeter of said slits. .Iadd.

       3. In combination, a light blocking interior curtain for a vehicle having a windshield, said curtain being formed of a light blocking flexible curtain material having inside and outside facing surfaces and a top portion and a bottom portion, and a visor mounted above said windshield, the improvement comprising a pocket on said inside facing surface of said material proximate said top portion, said pocket being formed as a laterally enclosing structure having an open end, whereby said visor fits into said open end of said pocket such that said pocket is releasably engagable with said visor to hold said curtain material suspended from said visor. .Iaddend. .Iadd.4. In combination, a light blocking interior curtain for a vehicle having a windshield, said curtain being formed of a light blocking flexible curtain material having inside and outside facing surfaces and a top portion and a bottom portion, and a visor mounted above said windshield, the improvement wherein a horizontally oriented slit is defined through said flexible curtain material proximate said top portion thereof, said horizontal slit receiving said visor to hold said curtain material suspended from said visor with said visor projecting through said slit. .Iaddend. .Iadd.5. In combination, sun visors mounted proximate to a vehicle windshield and a light blocking interior curtain for said vehicle windshield comprising: a light blocking flexible curtain material having a top portion and a bottom portion, two horizontally aligned visor pockets disposed at horizontally spaced apart locations on said curtain material on the inside surface thereof proximate said top portion of said curtain material, each said pocket being formed as a laterally enclosing structure having an open end, whereby said horizontally aligned visor pockets receive said sun visors through said open ends thereof and releasably engage said sun visors, thereby suspending said curtain material from said sun visors. .Iaddend. .Iadd.6. A combination according to claim 5 further comprising: tension adjusting means located between said visor pockets and including a first fastening member permanently secured on an inside facing surface of said light blocking flexible curtain material and a second fastening member secured to said inside facing surface of said light blocking flexible curtain material in horizontal separation from at least a portion of said first fastening member and being releasably engageable with said first fastening member to thereby place tension on said flexible curtain material in a horizontal direction and between said visor pockets. .Iaddend. .Iadd.7. A combination according to claim 5 wherein said curtain material further comprises a pair of horizontally elongated slots defined therethrough to form said open ends of said visor pockets. .Iaddend. .Iadd.8. A combination according to claim 5 wherein said vehicle has side doors with side door windows vertically movable therewithin and said curtain material is further comprised of a pair of end portions having disposed thereon at outside facing surfaces proximate said top portions thereof a pair of elongated, laterally projecting members removably insertable between said side door windows and said side doors, whereby said laterally projecting members are releasably clamped between said side door windows and said side doors. .Iaddend. .Iadd.9. In combination, a pair of horizontally spaced vehicle windshield sun visors and a light blocking interior curtain for a vehicle windshield comprising: a light blocking flexible curtain material having a top portion and a bottom portion; a pair of horizontally aligned hangers including horizontally oriented slits defined in said curtain material proximate said top portion thereof and positioned horizontally apart, said horizontally aligned slits receiving said sun visors for supporting said curtain material from said sun visors. .Iaddend. .Iadd.10. A combination according to claim 8 further comprising: tension adjustment means located between said hangers on an inside facing surface of said light blocking flexible curtain material and including a pair of members which are permanently secured to said light blocking flexible curtain material at horizontally separated locations thereon and which are releasably engageable to reduce the tendency of said light blocking flexible curtain material to sag by placing tension thereon between said sun visors. .Iaddend. .Iadd.11. A combination according to claim 9 wherein said hangers are further comprised of visor pockets formed as laterally enclosing structures having open ends attached to said curtain material. .Iaddend. .Iadd.12. A combination according to claim 9 for a vehicle having side doors and side door windows vertically movable within said side doors further comprising a pair of end portions on said flexible curtain material and horizontally elongated laterally projecting members attached to both of said end portions on an outside facing surface of said flexible curtain material proximate said top portions thereof whereby said laterally projecting members are releasably securable between said side doors and said side door windows. .Iaddend.
