Container with lid opening means

Abstract

A container and lid combination in which the lid is removable from the container to open the container and it is replaceable to close the container. The container has a body with a mouth including a strip of annular extent secured to the lid. The body has an annular weakening notch in the vicinity of the strip and the container is separable at the notch to separate a part of the container mouth and the lid together with the strip from the body of the container. The notch is positioned radially inwards of the strip and upon rupture of the notch separate parts are formed which can be reengaged upon replacement of the lid on the container. Locating surfaces are provided on the lid and container for establishing a determined oriented position of replacement of the lid on the body of the container.

I claim: 
     
       1. The combination of a container and lid in which the lid is removable from the container to open the latter and is replaceable to close the container, said container including a body having a mouth, said mouth including a strip of annular extent secured to said lid, said body of the container being provided with an annular weakening notch in the vicinity of said strip where the mouth of the container is secured to the lid, said container being separable at said notch to separate a part of said container mouth and the lid together with said strip from said body, said notch being positioned radially inwards of said strip and upon rupture of the notch forming separating parts which can be reengaged upon replacement of the lid on said container, and locating surfaces on said lid and container for establishing a determined, oriented position of replacement of the lid on the body of the container. 
     
     
       2. A container with lid as claimed in claim 1, wherein one of said locating surfaces is formed on a cylindrical part of the lid the other locating surface being formed on an upper inside edge of said mouth of the separated container. 
     
     
       3. A container with lid as claimed in claim 1, wherein one of said locating surfaces is arranged in the vinicity of said notch at an upper edge of said mouth and the other locating surface is the inside of the separated part of said separated container. 
     
     
       4. A container with lid as claimed in claim 3, wherein that part of the container intended to be separated when opening the container is movable with respect to said container body to provide a double leverage for rupturing said notch. 
     
     
       5. A container with lid as claimed in claim 1, wherein said strip is formed by at least one weld zone by which the lid is fixed to the container. .Iadd.

The combination of a container and lid in which the lid is removable from the container to open the latter and is replaceable to close the container, said container including a body having a mouth, said mouth including a strip of annular extent secured to said lid, said body of the container being provided with an annular weakening notch in the vicinity of said strip where the mouth of the container is secured to the lid, said container being separable at said notch to separate a part of said container mouth and the lid together with said strip from said body, said notch being positioned radially inwards of said strip and upon rupture of the notch forming separating parts which can be reengaged upon replacement of the lid on said container, and locating surfaces on said lid and container for establishing a determined, oriented position of replacement of the lid on the body of the container, and means provided on said lid and container for providing firm fit between said lid and container upon replacement of the lid on the container. .Iaddend. .Iadd.7. The combination of a container and a lid in which the lid is removable from the container to open the latter and is replaceable to close the container, said lid including a cylindrical section and an annular rim portion on said cylindrical section, said container including a body having a mouth comprising a vertical cylindrical portion receiving said cylindrical section of said lid and a horizontal ring-shaped part secured to said rim portion of said lid and integrally joined to said vertical cylindrical portion at a juncture therewith and extending outwardly therefrom, said body being provided with an annular weakening notch in the vicinity of the juncture between the vertical cylindrical portion and the horizontal ring-shaped part, said container being separable at said notch to separate said horizontal ring-shaped part with said lid from the remainder of said body and upon rupture of the notch forming separated parts which can be reengaged upon replacement of the lid on the container and locating surfaces on said lid and container for guidable replacement of the lid on the container to a determined position of replacement of the lid on the container. .Iaddend. .Iadd.8. The combination as claimed in claim 7 wherein said locating surface on said container is formed at said vertical cylindrical portion at the location where it is separated at said notch from said ring-shaped part, the latter said locating surface cooperating with said cylindrical section of said lid during replacement of said lid on the container and with the separated part formed by said rim portion of said lid and said ring-shaped part of said container body when the lid has been replaced on the container. .Iaddend. .Iadd.9. The combination as claimed in claim 8 comprising an annular weld securing said ring-shaped part of said container body to said rim portion of said lid at a location radially spaced outwards from said weakening notch. .Iaddend. .Iadd.10. The combination as claimed in claim 9 wherein upon reclosure of said lid on said container, said vertical cylindrical portion of said container cooperatively engages said cylindrical section of said lid, said rim portion of said lid and said ring-shaped part of said container body. .Iaddend. .Iadd.12. The combination as claimed in claim 11 wherein said vertical cylindrical portion of said container engages said cylindrical section of said lid at the inner surface of said vertical cylindrical portion. .Iaddend. .Iadd.13. The combination as claimed in claim 9 wherein said cylindrical section and said annular rim portion of said lid form an integrated one-piece body. .Iaddend. .Iadd.14. The combination as claimed in claim 13 wherein said one-piece body has substantially uniform thickness. .Iaddend. .Iadd.15. The combination as claimed in claim 9 wherein said horizontal ring-shaped part of said container body has an upper surface secured to said rim portion of said lid by said annular weld and a lower surface in which said notch is provided in radially spaced location inwardly from said weld. .Iaddend. .Iadd.16. The combination as claimed in claim 15 wherein said cylindrical section of said lid has a firm fit in said mouth of said container. .Iaddend. .Iadd.17. The combination as claimed in claim 6 wherein said means on said lid and container for providing firm fit between said lid and container upon replacement of the lid on the container comprises a cylindrical section on said lid which engages with firm fit with a surface of said container mouth.
