Abstract

8,8-Disubstituted-6-methylergolines and 9-ergolenes, prepared by alkylation of lysergic, isolysergic or their 9,10-dihydro analogues, optionally followed by chemical modification of an 8-substituent.

We claim: 
     
       1. A compound of the formula ##STR5## wherein R is alk, carbo(C 1  -C 3 )alkoxy, Cl or Br; R' is carboxyl, carbo(C 1  -C 3 )alkoxy, or CH 2  Z, wherein Y is S or O; and R" and R'" when taken singly are H; and, when taken together with the carbon atoms to which they are attached, form a double bond and pharmaceutically-acceptable acid addition salts thereof formed with non-toxic acids.   
     
     
       2. The compound according to claim 1, said compound being D-6-methyl-8.[.α.]..Iadd.β.Iaddend.-cyanomethyl-8.[.β.]..Iadd.α.Iaddend.-carbomethoxyergoline. 
     
     
       3. The compound according to claim 1, said compound being D-6,8.[.α.]..Iadd.β.Iaddend.-dimethyl-8.[.β.]..Iadd..alpha..Iaddend.-mesyloxymethylergoline. 
     
     
       4. The compound according to claim 1, said compound being D-6,8.[.α.]..Iadd.β.Iaddend.-cyanomethyl-6,8.[.β.]..Iadd..alpha..Iaddend.-dimethylergoline. 
     
     
       5. The compound according to claim 1, said compound being D-6,8.[.α.]..Iadd.β.Iaddend.-dimethyl-8.[.β.]..Iadd..alpha..Iaddend.-cyanomethylergoline. 
     
     
       6. The compound according to claim 1, said compound being D-6,8.[.α.]..Iadd.β.Iaddend.-dimethyl-8.[.β.]..Iadd..alpha..Iaddend.-carbomethoxyergoline. 
     
     
       7. The compound according to claim 1, said compound being D-6,8.[.α.]..Iadd.β.Iaddend.-dimethyl-8.[.β.]..Iadd..alpha..Iaddend.-carbomethoxy-9-ergolene. 
     
     
       8. D-2,13-dibromo-6,8.[.α.]..Iadd.β.Iaddend.-dimethyl-8.[.β.]..Iadd.α.Iaddend.-carbomethoxyergoline. 
     
     
       9. The compound according to claim 1, said compound being D-6,8,8-trimethylergoline.
