Abstract

.[.The.]. Phthalide ester of 6-[(D(-)α-aminophenylacetamido] penicillanic acid and intermediates therefor .[.are described.].. I claim: 
     
       1. A compound of the formula: ##STR14## wherein R is hydrogen or ##STR15## in which X is .[.NH 3   + ,.].  benzyloxycarbonylamino, N 3  or an enamine of the formula: ##STR16## wherein R 1  is lower alkyl, R 2  is H,   R 3  is lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or phenyl, or R 2  together with R 1  completes a fused 5- or 6 membered carbocyclic ring.   
     
     
       2. The compound of claim 1 in which R is hydrogen.
