Certain N-phenacyl pyridinium halides

Abstract

Pyridinium, pyridazinium, pyrimidinium, and pyrazinium halides, respectively having an N-(phenacyl) substituent and the corresponding ylids obtained therefrom by alkaline treatment which compounds are useful as herbicides and/or insecticides.

What is claimed is: .[.1. A N-substituted heterocyclic compound selected from the group consisting of

A N-substituted heterocyclic compound selected from the group consisting of (1) N-(4-nitrophenacyl) halides of the formula ##STR20## and (2) ylids of the formula ##STR21## wherein "Hal" is halogen of atomic weight in the range of 35 to 127, and Y is selected from the group consisting of nitro, cyano, halogen of atomic weight in the range of 35 to 127, and acyl of the formula ##STR22##   
     
     
        wherein R' is lower alkyl..]. .[.3.  A N-substituted heterocyclic compound selected from the group consisting of (1) N-(4-cyanophenacyl) halides of the formula ##STR23## and (2) ylids of the formula ##STR24## wherein "Hal" is halogen of atomic weight in the range of 35 to 127, and Y is selected from the group consisting of nitro, cyano and halogen of atomic weight in the range of 35 to 127, and acyl of the formula ##STR25##

An N-substituted heterocyclic compound selected from the group consisting of (1) N-(4-cyanophenacyl) halides of the formula ##STR28## and (2) ylids of the formula ##STR29## wherein "Hal" is a halogen of the atomic weight in the range of 35 to 127, and Y is selected from the group consisting of nitro, cyano and halogen of atomic weight in the range of 35 to 127, and acyl of the formula ##STR30##
