Interspecific tree named ‘Flavor Treat’

Abstract

A new and distinct variety of interspecific tree. The following features of the tree and its fruit are characterized with the tree budded on Citation Rootstock (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 5,112), grown on Handford sandy loam soil with Storie Index rating 95, in USDA Hardiness Zone 9, near Modesto, Calif., with standard commercial fruit growing practices, such as, pruning, thinning, spraying, irrigation and fertilization. Its novelty consist of the following combination of desirable features: 1. Fruit with very good flavor and eating quality. 2. Heavy and regular production of fruit. 3. Fruit with an attractive garnet red skin color. 4. Relatively uniform size fruit throughout the tree. 5. Fruit with firm flesh, good handling and shipping quality. 6. Fruit holding firm on the tree 10 to 14 days after shipping ripe. 7. Fruit ripening in the late maturity season.

We claim:  
     
       1. A new and distinct variety of interspecific tree, substantially as illustrated and described, characterized by its large size, vigorous upright growth and being a productive and regular bearer of large, clingstone fruit with very good flavor and eating quality; the fruit is further characterized by having firm flesh with good storage and shipping quality and in comparison to the fruit of the Flavor Gem Interspecific (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 10,915), the fruit of the new variety is larger in size, clingstone instead of freestone and is approximately three weeks later in maturity.
