Abstract

A display device and a method for providing content in the display device are disclosed, in which a display displays a menu screen including selectable icons representing a plurality of execution modes that indicate versions of content to be displayed, and a controller detects a user action for selecting an icon, identifies an execution mode indicated by the selected icon, in response to the detected user action, and executes the content in the identified execution mode. The plurality of execution modes may include edited version mode, Web mode, and application mode.

What is claimed is:

       1. A method of providing a service in a digital television, the method comprising:
 receiving a broadcast program;
 displaying the received broadcast program on a screen;
 receiving, during the display of the received broadcast program on the screen, a first signal for requesting a web service from a remote controller, wherein the web service displays a first content in a web browser;
 displaying the requested web service on the screen in response to the received first signal, the web service related to the broadcast program;
 receiving a second signal for requesting a service from the remote controller, wherein the service displays a second content in an application; and
 displaying the web service including the first content in the web browser and the service including the second content in the application on the screen in response to the received second signal,
 wherein the first content in the web browser and the second content in the application are not overlapped in the screen, and
 wherein an object displayed in the web browser is added for display in the application by dragging the object from the web browser to the application based on signals from the remote controller, and
 wherein the first content displayed in the web browser and the second content displayed in the application are at least partially the same.

       2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the web service includes at least one of one or more web pages and an application.

       3. The method of claim 1 further comprises detecting a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for the web service associated with the displayed broadcast program in response to the received first signal.

       4. A digital television comprising:
 a receiver configured to receive a broadcast program;
 an input device configured to receive a first signal for requesting a web service and a second signal for requesting a service from a remote controller, wherein the web service displays a first content in a web browser and the service displays a second content in an application;
 a controller configured to control to display the requested web service on a screen of the digital television in response to the received first signal and the requested service on the screen of the digital television in response to the received second signal, the web service related to the broadcast program; and
 a display configured to display the web service including the first content in the web browser and the service including the second content in the application on the screen, and
 wherein the first content in the web browser and the second content in the application are not overlapped in the screen, and
 wherein an object displayed in the web browser is added for display in the application by dragging the object from the web browser to the application based on signals from the remote controller, and
 wherein the first content displayed in the web browser and the second content displayed in the application are at least partially the same.

       5. The digital television of claim 4 , wherein the web service includes at least one of one or more web pages and an application.

       6. The digital television of claim 4 , wherein the controller is further configured to control to detect a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for the web service associated with the displayed broadcast program in response to the received first signal.
