Abstract

A synthesis procedure for benzazolo[3,2-a]quinolinium chloride salts and the inclusion of chloro-substituent, amino-substituent, and nitro-substituent resulting in several compounds wherein said procedures provides an increment in the compounds biological activity. The compounds are further used for intra cellular binding, cytotoxicity on malignant cells through apoptosis activation mediated by mitochondrial damage, cellular organelles binding and damage, DNA fragmentation, marker of bacterial growth, antibacterial activity, cell cycle disruption, and a marker due to the auto-fluorescent properties.

We claim:

       1. A method of treating a cancer cell selected from the group consisting of epitheloid carcinoma and lymphoma in a mammal comprising administering to said mammal, a therapeutically effective amount of an amino-substituted benzazolo[3,2-a]quinolinium chloride salts compound of formula

         wherein R 1  is 3NH 2 , R 2  is selected from a group consisting of H, 10-Me, 9-OMe, 8,9-C 4 H 4 , 10-OMe, 8,9-di-OMe, 10-OMe and 9-OMe;
         wherein X is NCH 2 C 6 H 5 .

       2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the selected concentration of the amino-substituted benzazolo[3,2-a]quinolinium chloride salt is within the range bounded by the IC 25 and the IC 90 of said cancer cell.

       3. The method of claim 2 wherein the concentration of the amino-substituted benzazolo[3,2-a]quinolinium chloride salt is the IC 50 of said cancer cell.

       4. A method of marking a bacterial cell selected from the group consisting of escherichia coli line cells and staphylococcus aureus line cells in a mammal comprising administering to said mammal an amino-substituted benzazolo[3,2-a]quinolinium chloride salts compound of formula:

         wherein R 1  is 3NH 2 , R 2  is selected from a group consisting of H, 10-Me, 9-OMe, 8,9-C 4 H 4 , 10-OMe, 8,9-di-OMe, 10-OMe, 9-OMe, and X is NCH 2 C 6 H 5  to mark cells comprising:
         said amino-substituted benzazolo[3,2-a]quinolinium chloride salt and at least one bacterial cell;
         wherein said bacterial cell is selected from the group consisting of  escherichia coli  line cells and  staphylococcus aureus  line cells;
         wherein said bacterial cell is exposed to a concentration of amino-substituted benzazolo[3,2-a] quinolinium chloride salt to mark said bacterial cell.

       5. A method of marking cancer cells selected from the group consisting of epitheloid carcinoma cells and lymphoma cells in a mammal comprising administering to said mammal an amino-substituted benzazolo[3,2-a]quinolinium chloride salts compound of formula;

         wherein R 1  is 3NH 2 , R 2  is selected from a group consisting of H, 10-Me, 9-OMe, 8,9-C 4 H 4 , 10-OMe, 8,9-di-OMe, 10-OMe and 9-OMe;
         wherein X is NCH 2 C 6 H 5 .

       6. The method of claim 5 wherein said mark is a stained cancer cell.

       7. The method of claim 6 wherein said stained cancer cell induces distinctive fluorescence.

       8. The method of claim 5 wherein the concentration of the amino-substituted benzazolo[3,2-a]quinolinium chloride salt is within the range bounded by the IC 25 and the IC 90 of said cancer cell.

       9. The method of claim 8 wherein the concentration of the amino-substituted benzazolo[3,2-a]quinolinium chloride salt is the IC 90 of said cancer cell.
