Abstract

The present invention is directed to methods of modulating the activity of an isoform of manganese superoxide dismutase which is useful for the treatment of diseases such as neurodegenerative diseases and heart failure.

A method of inhibiting an activity of isoMnSOD in a cell comprising contacting the cell with a compound or pharmaceutically acceptable salt or prodrug thereof, wherein the compound is 2-(3,4-dihydroxy-phenyl)-N-heptadec-8-enyl-acetamide or (2-(2,5-dihydroxy-phenyl)-N-heptadec-8-enyl-acetamide). 
     
     
       2. The method of  claim 1  wherein the activity is pro-oxidant activity.
