Abstract

An apparatus for releasably attaching a pushing tool to one work piece such that a pushing force can be applied to a second work piece and allow alignment of the two work pieces for joining the work pieces together.

1. An apparatus for applying a pushing force comprising:
 a switchable magnet including a switch being a rotational handle rotating about an axis between a first position and a second position; 
 a handle comprising a first end and a second end; and 
 a fork comprising a spine, a first prong, and a second prong, wherein said spine is disposed on said second end of said handle, wherein said first prong and said second prong are rotatably attached to opposing sides of said switchable magnet; 
 said spine comprising a perpendicular support wherein a fulcrum member is attached and parallel with said support, 
 said fulcrum member extending from said handle, the fulcrum member having at least one surface adapted to contact a workpiece. 
 
   
   
     2. The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein said fulcrum member is perpendicular to said spine and parallel to said first prong and said second prong. 
   
   
     3. The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein said at least one surface of said fulcrum member comprises a substantially arc-shape surface such that a contact area between said surface of said fulcrum member and a work piece approximates a line. 
   
   
     4. The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein said at least one surface of said fulcrum member comprises a substantially flat surface such that when said handle is lowered a plane of said flat surface coincides with a plane of a bottom face of said switchable magnet. 
   
   
     5. The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein said at least one surface of said fulcrum member comprises a substantially spherical surface such that a contact area between said at least one surface of said fulcrum member and a work piece approximates a point. 
   
   
     6. An apparatus for applying a pushing force comprising:
 means for releasably attaching to a work piece, wherein the means for releasably attaching includes a switch being a rotational handle rotating about an axis between a first position and a second position; 
 a handle comprising a first end and a second end; and 
 a fork comprising a spine, a first prong, and a second prong, said spine affixed to said second end of said handle, said prongs rotatably attached to opposing sides of said means for releasably attaching, 
 said spine comprising a perpendicular support wherein a fulcrum member is attached and parallel with said support, 
 said fulcrum member extending from said handle, the fulcrum member having at least one surface adapted to contact a workpiece. 
 
   
   
     7. The apparatus of  claim 6 , wherein said at least one surface of said fulcrum member further comprises a substantially arc-shape surface such that a contact area between said at least one surface of said fulcrum member and a second work piece approximates a line. 
   
   
     8. The apparatus of  claim 6 , wherein said at least one surface of said fulcrum member further comprises a substantially flat surface such that when said handle is lowered a plane of said substantially flat surface coincides with a plane of a bottom face of said means for releasably attaching. 
   
   
     9. The apparatus of  claim 6 , wherein said at least one surface of said fulcrum member further comprises a substantially spherical surface such that a contact area between said at least one surface of said fulcrum member and a second work piece approximates a point. 
   
   
     10. The apparatus of  claim 6 , wherein the means for releasably attaching comprises a switchable magnet including a switch being a rotational handle rotating about an axis between a first position and a second position. 
   
   
     11. An apparatus for applying a pushing force comprising:
 a lever; 
 a fork disposed at one end of the lever, wherein the fork comprises a spine disposed between a first prong and a second prong, wherein the spine comprises a perpendicular support wherein a fulcrum member having at least one surface adapted to contact a workpiece is attached and parallel with the support, and wherein the fulcrum member extends from the lever: and 
 a switchable magnet, wherein opposing sides of the switchable magnet are rotatably disposed between the first prong and the second prong, wherein the switchable magnet includes a contact side that is switchable between a magnetized state and a non-magnetized state, and wherein the magnet includes a switch being a rotational handle rotating about an axis to switch the magnet between the magnetized state and the non-magnetized state. 
 
   
   
     12. The apparatus of  claim 11 , wherein the support member is at least partially disposed within a portion of the lever. 
   
   
     13. The apparatus of  claim 11 , wherein the support and the fulcrum member are disposed on opposing sides of the lever. 
   
   
     14. The apparatus of  claim 11 , wherein the at least one surface of said fulcrum member includes an arc-shape surface, a spherical surface, a flat surface, or any combination thereof. 
   
   
     15. The apparatus of  claim 11 , wherein the fulcrum member is rotatably attached to the lever. 
   
   
     16. An apparatus for applying a pushing force comprising:
 a lever having a first end and a second end; 
 a fork comprising a spine, a first prong, and a second prong, wherein the spine is disposed on the second end of the lever, wherein the spine comprises a perpendicular support wherein a fulcrum member having at least one surface adapted to contact a workpiece is attached and parallel with the support, and wherein the fulcrum member extends from the lever: and 
 a means for releasably attaching to a work piece, wherein the means for releasably attaching includes a switch being a rotational handle rotating about an axis between a first position and a second position, and wherein opposing sides of the means for releasably attaching are rotatably disposed between the first prong and the second prong. 
 
   
   
     17. The apparatus of  claim 16 , wherein the support member is at least partially disposed within a portion of the lever. 
   
   
     18. The apparatus of  claim 16 , wherein the support and the fulcrum member are disposed on opposing sides of the lever. 
   
   
     19. The apparatus of  claim 16 , wherein the at least one surface of said fulcrum member includes an arc-shape surface, a spherical surface, a flat surface, or any combination thereof. 
   
   
     20. The apparatus of  claim 16 , wherein the fulcrum member is rotatably attached to the lever. 
   
   
     21. A method for applying a pushing force comprising:
 locating a contact side of a tool onto a magnetically susceptible work surface, wherein the tool comprises:
 a lever having a first end and a second end; 
 a fork comprising a spine, a first prong, and a second prong, wherein the spine is disposed on the second end of the lever, wherein the spine comprises a perpendicular support wherein a fulcrum member is attached and parallel with the support, wherein the fulcrum member extends from the lever and the fulcrum member has at least one surface adapted to contact a workpiece; and 
 a switchable magnet, wherein opposing sides of the switchable magnet are rotatably disposed between the first prong and the second prong, wherein the magnet includes the contact side, and wherein the switchable magnet includes a switch being a rotational handle rotating about an axis between a first position and a second position. 
 
 
   
   
     22. The method of  claim 21 , further comprising moving the lever toward the magnetically susceptible work surface such that the at least one surface of said fulcrum member contacts the work surface. 
   
   
     23. The method of  claim 21 , further comprising moving the lever toward the magnetically susceptible work surface such that the at least one surface of said fulcrum member contacts a second work surface. 
   
   
     24. The method of  claim 23 , wherein the contact between the fulcrum member and the second work surface at least partially aligns the magnetically susceptible work surface and the second work surface. 
   
   
     25. The method of  claim 21 , wherein the contact side of the switchable magnet is switchable between a magnetized state and a non-magnetized state. 
   
   
     26. The method of  claim 21 , further comprising attaching the contact side to the magnetically susceptible work surface by rotating the switch from the first position to the second position thereby switching the switchable magnet from a non-magnetized state to a magnetized state.
