Rhododendron plant--Sammetglut variety

Abstract

A new and distinct variety of Rhododendron plant which originated as a chance seedling in a cultivated area is provided. The new variety produces flowers which are of a highly attractive clear bright red coloration on a well-branched compact plant which exhibits good tolerance to extremes in temperature.

I claim: 
     
       1. A new and distinct variety of Rhododendron plant, substantially as herein shown and described, characterized particularly as to novelty by the unique combination of: (a) a well-branched, compact plant of good vigor,   (b) very attractive blossoms having a clean, bright red color, which contrasts handsomely with the white stamens,   (c) winter hardiness to -25° C., and   (d) an aptitude for rooting from mature cuttings which compares favorably with presently known varieties.
