Abstract

A new and distinct variety of Ilex X meserveae produced by crossing an Ilex aquifolium seedling X Ilex rugosa seedling is provided. The new variety of Blue Holly is a female which bears unusually large foliage and exhibits superior cold tolerance.

I claim: 
     
       1. A new and distinct variety of Ilex X meserveae plant, substantially as herein shown and described, characterized particularly as to novelty by the unique combination of: (a) a vigorous, densely branched upright evergreen shrub,   (b) deep green foliage of unusually large size,   (c) pistillate flowers borne abundantly in May,   (d) berries which mature to a vibrant red color, and   (e) a superior cold tolerance.
