Abstract

A multi-layer armature winding for large turbine generator is wound with individual diamond coils around to the point where the sides of initially wound diamond coils lying in upper armature slot positions interfer with the placement in lower slot positions of the coil side of additional diamond coils to complete the winding. To avoid having to "raise the jump" the winding is completed using bar coils, individual bars of which having been laid in those lower slot positions prior to the placement of any diamond coils. The remaining bars are laid in the vacent upper slot positions and then electrically joined with the initially laid bars to complete the individual bar coils.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

       1. A dynamoelectric machine comprising, in combination: A. a magnetizable member having a cylindrical surface; B. a plurality of axially extending slots uniformly spaced in said member and opening into said surface, each of said slots having upper and lower slot positions; and C. a winding including a first segment comprised of a succesion of diamond coils and a second segment comprised of a succession of bar coils, (1) said diamond coils each having first and second coil sides integrally interconnected by end turn sections, said diamond coils being placed on said member with said first coil sides disposed in upper slot positions of respective ones of said slots and said second coil side disposed in lower slot positions of respective different ones of said slots, the number of said slots circumferentially separating said first and second coil sides of each said diamond coil being equal to the pitch thereof, (2) said bar coils each having first and second bars electrically interconnected at their respective terminations by separate end turn electrical joints, said first bars disposed in respective lower slot positions of those of said slots whose upper slot position are occupied by said first coil sides of the initially placed group of said diamond coils equal in number to said diamond coil pitch, and said second bars disposed in respective upper slot positions of those of said slots whose lower slot positions are occupied by said second coil sides of the lastly placed group of said diamond coils equal in number to said diamond coil pitch.

       2. The dynamoelectric machine defined in claim 1, wherein said first and second bars include multiple partial turns each comprised of a plurality of individually insulated conductive strands, said strands of each said partial turn being transposed such as to cancel any unbalanced voltages on said strands at said end turn electrical joints.

       3. The dynamoelectric machine defined in claim 2, wherein said electrical joints comprise separate conductive straps bridging the respective terminations of said partial turn strands at each end of said first and second bars.

       4. A dynamoelectric machine comprising, in combination: A. a magnetizable member having a substantially cylindrical surface; B. a plurality of axially extending slots uniformly spaced in said member and opening into said surface, each of said slots having upper and lower slot positions; and C. a winding including a first segment comprised of a plurality of successive diamond coils and a second segment of successive bar coils, (1) each said diamond coil having first and second coil sides integrally interconnected by end turn sections, said first coil sides disposed in upper slot positions of respective ones of said slots and said second sides disposed in lower slot positions of respective different ones of said slots, the number of said slots circumferentially separating said first and second sides of each said diamond coil being equal to the pitch thereof, and (2) said bar coils be equal in number to the pitch of said diamond coils, each of said bar coils having first and second bars electrically interconnected at their respective terminations by separate end turn electrical joints, said first bars disposed in respective lower slot positions of a first succession of said slots whose upper slot positions are occupied by said first coil sides of a plurality of said diamond coils and said second bars being disposed in respective upper slot positions of a second succession of different ones of said slots whose lower slot positions are occupied by said second coil sides of a different plurality of said diamond coils, said first and second successions of slots being arranged consecutively.

       5. The dynamoelectric machine defined in claim 4, wherein said first and second bars include multiple partial turns each comprised of a plurality of individually insulated conductive strands, said strands of each said partial turn being transposed such as to cancel any unbalanced voltages on said strands at said end turn electrical joints.

       6. The dynamoelectric machine defined in claim 5, wherein said electrical joints comprise separate conductive straps bridging the respective terminations of said partial turn strands at each end of said first and second bars.
