N-(2-fluoro-4-halo-5-substituted phenyl)hydantoins, and their production and use

Abstract

A composition comprising an N-(2-fluoro-4-halo-5-substituted phenyl)hydantoin of the formula: ##STR1## wherein X is a chlorine atom or a bromine atom and R 1 and R 2 are, same or different, each a C 1 -C 4 alkyl group, a cyclopropyl group, a C 3 -C 4 alkenyl group or a C 3 -C 4 alkynyl group and an inert carrier, which is useful as a herbicide.

What is claimed is: 
     
       1. A phenyl isocyanate of the formula: ##STR26## wherein X is a chlorine atom or a bromine atom and R 1  is a C 1  -C 4  alkyl group, a cyclopropyl group, a C 3  -C 4  alkenyl group or a C 3  -C 4  alkynyl group. 
     
     
       2. A phenyl isocyanate as in claim 1, wherein R 1  is a methyl group, an ethyl group, an n-propyl group, an iso-propyl group, a sec-butyl group, an allyl group or a propargyl group. 
     
     
       3. A phenyl isocyanate as in claim 1, wherein X is chlorine and R 1  is isopropyl. 
     
     
       4. A phenyl isocyanate as in claim 1, wherein X is chlorine and R 1  is n-propyl. 
     
     
       5. A phenyl isocyanate as in claim 1, wherein X is chlorine and R 1  is methyl. 
     
     
       6. A phenyl isocyanate as in claim 1, wherein X is chlorine and R 1  is ethyl. 
     
     
       7. A phenyl isocyanate as in claim 1, wherein X is chlorine and R 1  is propene. 
     
     
       8. A phenyl isocyanate as in claim 1, wherein X is chlorine and R 1  is propyne. 
     
     
       9. A phenyl isocyanate as in claim 1, wherein X is chlorine and R 1  is sec-butyl.
