Electronic digital watch

Abstract

The present invention relates to a writing implement containing an electronic computer for computing and displaying time. The implement includes an elongated barrel portion with a writing element having a tip portion protruding from one end thereof and an electronic time signal generating device defined by a narrow elongated support having a chip or circuit board disposed within the barrel portion and containing display elements which extend in a row longitudinally of the barrel of the implement which display is aligned behind an elongated window which extends across a longitudinally extending opening in the wall of the barrel. Structures are provided for easily retaining and removing a battery with respect to the barrel to arrange it in circuit with the electronic circuit, supported by the circuit board. Structures are also provided for easily removing the elongated circuit board from the barrel and repairing or replacing it with another board.

I claim: 
     
       1. A writing implement including electrically energized means for keeping and displaying time comprising: an elongated tubular barrel having a first opening at one end thereof and closure means for said first opening,   a writing device secured within said barrel and having a writing tip portion projecting from the other end of said barrel,   an electrical circuit means and a battery connected to power said electrical circuit means,   an elongated support for said electrical circuit means,   display means including a plurality of variably operable character generating means supported by said elongated support and connectable to be operated by said electrical circuit means so as to display time,   a second opening to said barrel,   means for removably securing said battery to said support for said circuit means in alignment with said second opening to permit said battery to be removed and replaced through said second opening,   a first retaining means for said support located within said barrel for holding said support and means for securing said first retaining means to a wall of said barrel,   a transparent lens disposed across and closing said second opening,   said transparent lens being removably secured to said barrel across said second opening,   said support for said electrical circuit means being supported by said retaining means to position said display means in alignment with said second opening when said retaining means is operatively located in said barrel whereby the time displayed by said display means may be viewed through said transparent lens from the exterior of said barrel,   said battery being removably secured within said barrel, and   means for electrically connecting said battery to said electrical circuit means when said support for said electrical circuit means is operatively located in said barrel and said battery is operatively located and retained against said support for said circuit means.   
     
     
       2. A writing implement in accordance with claim 1 including battery retaining means secured to said support for said electrical circuit means, said connecting means for said battery and said electrical circuit means disposed adjacent said battery retaining means, said circuit connecting means being located and extending so as to serve as lead means from said battery for connecting said battery to said electrical circuit means when said battery is retained by said retaining means, means operable when said support is retained by said first retaining means for compressibly holding said battery against said support for said electrical means to maintain the terminals of said battery electrically connected to said electrical circuit means. 
     
     
       3. A writing implement in accordance with claim 1 including means for hermetically sealing said first and second openings in the wall of said barrel to seal the interior volume of said barrel containing said electrical circuit and said display means. 
     
     
       4. A writing implement in accordance with claim 1 including yieldable shock absorbing means for said support for said electrical circuit and said display means. 
     
     
       5. A writing implement in accordance with claim 4 wherein said shock absorbing means includes a portion of said support for said electrical circuit means. 
     
     
       6. A writing implement in accordance with claim 4 wherein said shock absorbing means includes resilient means supporting said support for said electrical circuit means in assembly with said tubular barrel.
