Abstract

Lubricants are stabilized against wear and corrosion by adding an additive amount of a novel substituted thiadiazole. These are derived from 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole and other moieties, as for example, an isocyanate moiety.

       1. A compound of the formula ##STR28## wherein R 2  is an alkenylsuccinic acid group of the formula ##STR29## wherein R 5  is an alkenyl group containing 15 to 200 carbon atoms. 
     
     
       2. A compound having the formula ##STR30## 
     
     
       3. A compound having the formula ##STR31## 
     
     
       4. The compound of claim 1 wherein R 2  is ##STR32## wherein PB is a polybutenyl group having a number average molecular weight of 2300.
