Abstract

Phospholipase A 2 inhibition the present invention relates to a method for treating or preventing a phospholipase A 2 mediated condition (PMC) in a mammal suffering from or susceptible to such a condition. The method involves administering to such a mammal an amount effective to treat the condition of a compound selected from a certain group of butyrophenones.

I claim: 
     
       1. A method for treating a phospholipase A 2  mediated condition (PMC) in a mammal suffering from the development of said PMC which comprises administering to said mammal an amount of a compound of formula I: wherein R 1  is R 1  --N(R 3 )--CH 2  --CH 2  --CH 2  --R 2  ##STR16## R 2  is ##STR17## R 3  is H or CH 3 , with the proviso that R 3  is -CH 3  only when R 1  is ##STR18##  or a pharmacologically acceptable acid addition salt or salt hydrate thereof, effective to treat said PMC.
