Ski servicing and repairing tool

Abstract

A tool assembly is provided for maintaining and repairing the runner surfaces and edges of skis. The basic unit of the assembly is a hand held tool to which blades may be attached for planing or scraping the running surface and longitudinal center groove of the ski. The basic unit also has provisions for mounting a flat file to file and sharpen the metal edges of the skis. A waxing attachment for applying a uniform wax coating to the ski is also provided along with a polishing unit. The assembly further includes a base and heater with a wax reservoir.

I claim: 
     
       1. A ski servicing and repairing tool, comprising: a hand held unit including a handle portion adapted to be grasped in the palm of a hand and a base plate attached to said handle portion and having upper and lower principal surfaces, the upper of which abutts said handle portion and the lower of which has a longitudinal groove and a transverse groove extending the length and width, respectively, of said base plate, said transverse groove being dimensioned so as to receive a flat file and   a guide member detachably securable to one longitudinal lateral surface of said base plate and having a pair of downwardly projecting legs, one of said legs being provided with a groove of substantially the same cross-sectional dimensions as said transverse groove of said base plate for holding said file in a position normal to the plane of said lower principal surface.   
     
     
       2. The ski servicing and repairing tool of claim 1 wherein permanent magnet means are imbedded in said base plate for retaining said file in said transverse groove. 
     
     
       3. The ski servicing and repairing tool of claim 1 wherein one transverse lateral surface of said base plate is inclined and wherein said tool further includes a planing blade detachably securable to said lastmentioned surface. 
     
     
       4. The ski servicing and repairing tool of claim 3 further including a second, elongated blade detachably secured in said longitudinal groove of said base plate and projecting downwardly therefrom for scraping the center groove of a ski. 
     
     
       5. The ski servicing and repairing tool of claim 1 further including a polishing pad detachably mountable on the lower principal surface of said base plate, said pad including a plate of substantially the same length and width as said base plate and having, on its upper surface, raised lands of complimentary configuration to the longitudinal and transverse grooves of said base plate and a cork pad bonded to the lower surface thereof. 
     
     
       6. A ski servicing and repairing tool, comprising: a hand held unit including a handle portion adapted to be grasped in the palm of a hand and a base plate attached to said handle portion and having upper and lower principal surfaces, the upper of which abutts said handle portion and the lower of which has a longitudinal groove and a transverse groove extending the length and width, respectively, of said base plate, said transverse groove being dimensioned so as to receive a flat file;   a guide member detachably securable to one longitudinal lateral surface of said base plate and having a pair of downwardly projecting legs; and   a wax dispensing subassembly detachably mounted on said base plate, said subassembly including a body portion having an open-topped well and a wall slanting downwardly from said well, the side of said well adjacent said downwardly slanting wall being of lesser height than the remaining side walls of said well, a metering plate interposed between said body portion and said base plate, the portion of said metering plate adjacent said slanting wall being of reduced thickness whereby a slot is formed between the lower edge of said lastmentioned wall and said metering plate, and screw means for mounting said body portion and said metering plate to a transverse lateral surface of said base plate.   
     
     
       7. A ski servicing and repairing tool, comprising: a handle shaped so as to fit the palm of a hand;   a base plate attached to said handle, said base plate having longitudinal and transverse grooves on its lower surface, an inclined front end and a plurality of component attaching holes;   a planing blade detachably mounted on said inclined front end of said base plate;   a reversable center groove scraping blade fitting into said longitudinal groove of said base plate and detachably retained therein;   a guide member detachably mounted on a side of said base plate and having a pair of legs projecting below said base plate for engaging the lateral edge of a ski;   a wax dispensing assembly detachably mounted on the rear end of said base plate and having a reservoir for molten wax and a dispensing orifice communicating with said reservoir; and   a cork pad detachably mounted on the bottom surface of said base plate.   
     
     
       8. The ski servicing and repairing tool as in claim 7 further including a brush plate adapted to be mounted between said base plate and said wax dispensing assembly and having downwardly projecting bristles extending below the plane of the lower principal surface of said base plate. 
     
     
       9. A ski servicing and repairing tool, comprising: a hand held unit adapted to be grasped in the palm of a hand and having a lower principal surface with a transverse groove thereacross, said groove being dimensioned so as to hold a flat file with one cutting face thereof in the plane of said lower principal surface; and   a guide member detachably securable to said unit and having a downwardly projecting leg with a guide surface normal to the plane of said lower principal surface, said leg being provided with a groove of substantially the same dimensions as said transverse groove for holding said file with said cutting face in the plane of said guide surface.   
     
     
       10. A ski servicing and repairing tool, comprising: a hand held unit adapted to be grasped in the palm of a hand and having a lower principal surface with a transverse groove thereacross, said groove being dimensioned so as to hold a flat file with one cutting face thereof in the plane of said lower principal surface;   a guide member detachably securable to said unit and having a downwardly projecting leg with a guide surface normal to the plane of said lower principal surface; and   a wax dispensing subassembly detachably mountable on said unit, said subassembly including a body portion having an open-topped well and a wall slanting downwardly from said well, the side of said well adjacent said downwardly slanting wall being of lesser height than the remaining side walls of said well, a metering plate interposed between said body portion and said unit, the portion of said metering plate adjacent said slanting wall being of reduced thickness whereby a slot is formed between the lower edge of said lastmentioned wall and said metering plate, and means for mounting said body portion and said metering plate to said unit.
