Abstract

A portable wire winding system includes a support frame, a spool shaft, a locking assembly, a drive shaft, and a drive assembly. The spool shaft is rotatably mounted on the support frame and includes a free end portion designed to removably support a wire spool thereon. The locking assembly is designed to detachably lock a wire spool in place on the spool shaft. The drive shaft is rotatably mounted on the support frame and includes a projection positioned at one end of the drive shaft and designed to be engaged by a rotary power tool to rotate the drive shaft. The drive assembly operatively connects the spool shaft and the drive shaft to permit transfer of rotational forces from the drive shaft to the spool shaft to rotate a wire spool on the spool shaft and wind up a length of wire.

Claims

I claim:

         1 . A portable wire winding system comprising:
 a support frame; a spool shaft rotatably mounted on said support frame and comprising a free end portion configured to removably support a wire spool thereon; a locking assembly configured to detachably lock a wire spool in place on said spool shaft; a drive shaft rotatably mounted on said support frame and comprising a projection disposed at one end of said drive shaft and configured to be engaged by a rotary power tool to rotate said drive shaft; and a drive assembly operatively connecting said spool shaft and said drive shaft to permit transfer of rotational forces from said drive shaft to said spool shaft to rotate a wire spool on said spool shaft and wind up a length of wire.

         2 . The portable wire winding system of claim 1 , wherein said support frame comprises lightweight tubing comprising metal, plastic, or a combination thereof.

         3 . The portable wire winding system of claim 1 , wherein said support frame comprises anchor structures to permit temporary securing of said support frame to a structure or surface.

         4 . The portable wire winding system of claim 1 , wherein said support frame comprises a plurality of bearings.

         5 . The portable wire winding system of claim 4 , wherein said spool shaft is rotatably mounted in two of said bearings.

         6 . The portable wire winding system of claim 4 , wherein said drive shaft is rotatably mounted in two of said bearings.

         7 . The portable wire winding system of claim 1 , wherein said locking assembly comprises a drive pin operatively connected to said spool shaft and configured to engage and detachably lock a wire spool on said spool shaft.

         8 . The portable wire winding system of claim 7 , wherein said locking assembly comprises a drive sleeve configured to slide onto and detachably connect to said free end portion of said spool shaft and a drive plate attached to and extending radially from said drive sleeve, wherein said drive pin is mounted on said drive plate and projects parallel to said drive sleeve.

         9 . The portable wire winding system of claim 8 , wherein said locking assembly comprises a locking pin insertable through openings in said drive sleeve and said spool shaft to detachably lock said drive sleeve on said spool shaft.

         10 . The portable wire winding system of claim 1 , wherein said drive assembly comprises a spool shaft pulley mounted on said spool shaft, a drive shaft pulley mounted on said drive shaft, and a drive belt mounted on and connecting said spool shaft pulley and said drive shaft pulley.

         11 . A portable wire winding system comprising:
 a support frame, wherein:
 said support frame comprises lightweight tubing comprising metal, plastic, or a combination thereof,
 said support frame comprises a plurality of bearings,
 said support frame comprises anchor structures to permit temporary securing of said support frame to a structure or surface;
   a spool shaft rotatably mounted on said support frame and comprising a free end portion configured to removably support a wire spool thereon, wherein said spool shaft is rotatably mounted in two of said bearings; a locking assembly configured to detachably lock a wire spool in place on said spool shaft, wherein:
 said locking assembly comprises a drive pin operatively connected to said spool shaft and configured to engage and detachably lock a wire spool on said spool shaft,
 said locking assembly comprises a drive sleeve configured to slide onto and detachably connect to said free end portion of said spool shaft and a drive plate attached to and extending radially from said drive sleeve, wherein said drive pin is mounted on said drive plate and projects parallel to said drive sleeve,
 said locking assembly comprises a locking pin insertable through openings in said drive sleeve and said spool shaft to detachably lock said drive sleeve on said spool shaft;
   a drive shaft rotatably mounted on said support frame and comprising a projection disposed at one end of said drive shaft and configured to be engaged by a rotary power tool to rotate said drive shaft, wherein said drive shaft is rotatably mounted in two of said bearings; and a drive assembly operatively connecting said spool shaft and said drive shaft to permit transfer of rotational forces from said drive shaft to said spool shaft to rotate a wire spool on said spool shaft and wind up a length of wire, wherein said drive assembly comprises a spool shaft pulley mounted on said spool shaft, a drive shaft pulley mounted on said drive shaft, and a drive belt mounted on and connecting said spool shaft pulley and said drive shaft pulley.
