Abstract
A material penetrating tool includes a shaft portion defining a central axis, and an enlarged cutting portion extending downwardly axially from the shaft portion. The enlarged cutting portion includes a rearward blunt surface, a front cutting surface, a first side surface and a second side surface, and the first side surface and the second side surface define an angle of extension measured in a plane perpendicular to the central axis, forming a wider forward cutting surface than the rearward blunt surface in a plane perpendicular to the central axis.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 16 . (canceled)
17 . A tile configured to be attached to a notch of a tool bit for use with a grading machine, the tile comprising:
a first side surface; a second side surface; a top surface; a bottom surface; a rear surface; and a front faceted portion including a first facet, and a second facet forming an obtuse included angle with the first facet on the top surface ranging from 120 to 180 degrees, wherein the front faceted portion includes a perimeter that is defined by the first side surface, the second side surface, the top surface, and the bottom surface.
18 . The tile of claim 17 , wherein the first side surface is perpendicular to the rear surface and the top surface and is parallel to the second side surface and further comprises a blend transitioning from the first facet to the second facet.
19 . The tile of claim 18 , wherein the bottom surface forms right angles with the rear surface, the first side surface, and the second side surface, and wherein the tile further comprises a beveled surface connecting the first facet, the second facet, the blend, and the bottom surface.
20 . The tile of claim 18 , wherein the bottom surface forms a bottom obtuse angle with the rear surface, wherein the bottom surface includes a third facet and a fourth facet that form a bottom included angle with each other, and wherein the bottom included angle matching matches the obtuse included angle.
21 . The tile of claim 17 , further comprising a blend transitioning from the first facet to the second facet.
22 . The tile of claim 21 , wherein the blend connects to the top surface and the bottom surface.
23 . The tile of claim 17 , further comprising a chamfered surface connecting the first facet, the second facet, and the bottom surface.
24 . The tile of claim 23 , wherein the chamfered surface forms a chamfer angle with the bottom surface ranging from 120 to 180 degrees.
25 . The tile of claim 17 , wherein the first side surface and the second side surface are parallel.
26 . The tile of claim 25 , wherein the top surface and the bottom surface are parallel.
27 . An insert configured to be attached to a tool bit for use with a grading machine, the insert comprising:
a top surface; a bottom surface; and a front faceted portion including a first facet, a second facet forming an obtuse included angle with the first facet on the top surface, and a blend transitioning from the first facet to the second facet.
28 . The insert of claim 27 , wherein the blend connects the top surface and the bottom surface.
29 . The insert of claim 27 , further comprising a chamfered surface connecting the first facet, the second facet, the bottom surface, and the blend.
30 . The insert of claim 29 , wherein the chamfered surface forms a chamfer angle with the bottom surface ranging from 120 to 180 degrees.
31 . The insert of claim 30 , wherein the obtuse included angle ranges from 120 to 180 degrees.
32 . An insert configured to be attached to a tool bit for use with a grading machine, the insert comprising:
a top surface; a bottom surface; and a front faceted portion including:
a first facet;
a second facet forming a first obtuse included angle with the first facet on the top surface;
a third facet forming an external obtuse angle with the second facet on the top surface; and
a fourth facet forming a second obtuse included angle with the third facet on the top surface.
33 . The insert of claim 32 , wherein the first obtuse included angle and the second obtuse included angle range from 120 to 180 degrees.
34 . The insert of claim 32 , further comprising a first blend transitioning from the first facet to the second facet and a second blend transitioning from the third facet to the fourth facet.
35 . The insert of claim 32 , further comprising:
a first chamfered surface connecting the first facet, the second facet, and the bottom surface; and a second chamfered surface connecting the third facet, the fourth facet, and the bottom surface.
36 . The insert of claim 35 , wherein the first chamfered surface and the second chamfered surface form a chamfer angle with the bottom surface ranging from 120 to 180 degrees.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
