Abstract

The examples herein relate to a sonic signature suppressor, also referred to as a silencer, for firearms, that has a housing with a bullet channel passing through it, and a drain hole formed at or near the weapon end of the housing, through which liquid can be drained from the suppressor, wherein, the drain hole connects the interior of the suppressor to the exterior. In some examples, liquid in the interior can be discharged through the drain hole to clear the bullet channel in order to safely fire a round within a few seconds. The examples herein also relate to the use of the sonic signature suppressor to remove liquid and to a firearm equipped with the sonic signature suppressor.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A sonic signature suppressor for firearms, comprising:
a housing with a bullet channel passing therethrough, and a drain hole formed at or near a weapon end of the housing, through which liquid can be drained from the sonic signature suppressor, wherein the drain hole connects an interior of the sonic signature suppressor to an exterior of the sonic signature suppressor.

2 . The sonic signature suppressor according to claim 1 , wherein the drain hole is large enough and placed that 50% to 60% of a volume of the interior of the suppressor can be drained within 1 to 6 seconds.

3 . The sonic signature suppressor according to claim 1 , wherein the drain hole can be closed by a closure mechanism, wherein the closure mechanism has a closure element to at least partially encompass the sonic signature suppressor.

4 . The sonic signature suppressor according to claim 3 , wherein the closure mechanism can be moved between a closed and open setting by a coupling mechanism.

5 . The sonic signature suppressor according to claim 3 , wherein the closure element can be moved radially, and/or axially, and/or diagonally, and/or horizontally on the sonic signature suppressor to close the drain hole.

6 . The sonic signature suppressor according to claim 3 , wherein the closure mechanism includes a seal to retain liquid.

7 . The sonic signature suppressor according to claim 1 , wherein the drain hole is on a bottom of the sonic signature suppressor, and wherein the drain hole is protected by a net, grid, or fibrous protective structure that prevents ingress of foreign matter.

8 . The sonic signature suppressor according to claim 1 , further including a baffle chamber, wherein the drain hole connects the baffle chamber the exterior of the sonic signature suppressor to remove liquid.

9 . The sonic signature suppressor according to claim 1 , wherein the drain hole connects at least two baffle chambers to the exterior of the sonic signature suppressor ( 1 ) to remove liquid, and wherein the at least two baffle chambers are connected by a second drain hole inside the sonic signature suppressor.

10 . The sonic signature suppressor according to claim 1 , further including a recess that extends along a length of the sonic signature suppressor on a closure element to remove liquid and/or liquid/gas mixtures in a direction of firing.

11 . The sonic signature suppressor according to claim 10 , wherein the recess is narrower than a diameter of the drain hole.

12 . The sonic signature suppressor according to claim 1 , further including a coupling mechanism with which the sonic signature suppressor is oriented precisely in relation to the firearm, in a reproduceable manner when attaching it thereto.

13 . The sonic signature suppressor according to claim 1 , further including a pressure relief valve for removing liquids and/or gas/liquid mixtures in case of excess pressures.

14 . The sonic signature suppressor according to claim 1 , further including a device that protects the sonic signature suppressor against excess pressures and/or prevents an uncontrolled shot from exiting the sonic signature suppressor when there is liquid in the sonic signature suppressor.

15 . The sonic signature suppressor according to claim 1 further including a heat protection sleeve that protects the sonic signature suppressor from overheating, and/or shields a shooter against heat, and which forms the closure element.

16 . The sonic signature suppressor according claim 15 , wherein the heat protection sleeve least partially encompasses the sonic signature suppressor and is also designed to prevent a bullet from exiting in any direction other than that in which it is fired.

         17 . A firearm, comprising:
a barrel; and a sonic signature suppressor fixed to the barrel, the sonic signature suppressor, comprising:
a housing with a bullet channel passing therethrough, and
a drain hole formed at or near an end of the housing at which the sonic signature suppressor is fixed, through which liquid can be drained from the sonic signature suppressor, wherein the drain hole connects an interior of the sonic signature suppressor to an exterior of the sonic signature suppressor.

18 . The firearm according to claim 17 , wherein the sonic signature suppressor is attached directly to the barrel in an orientation that can be precisely reproduced.

19 . The firearm according to claim 17 , wherein the sonic signature suppressor is attached to the barrel via a flash suppressor in an orientation that can be precisely reproduced.

20 . The firearm according to claim 17 , wherein the sonic signature suppressor is removably fixed to the barrel.
