Abstract

A ripper for a work machine includes a mounting assembly adapted to couple the ripper with the work machine. The ripper also includes a carriage assembly including a cross bar. The ripper further includes a coupling assembly that movably couples the carriage assembly with the mounting assembly. The ripper includes a retrieval assembly removably coupled with the carriage assembly. The retrieval assembly includes a mounting bracket and a plurality of mechanical fasteners that removably couple the mounting bracket with the cross bar of the carriage assembly. Each of the plurality of mechanical fasteners has a linear profile or a U-shaped profile. The ripper also includes a pair of locking mechanisms. Each of the pair of locking mechanisms includes at least one linkage that locks the carriage assembly with the mounting assembly to prevent a movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A ripper for a work machine, the ripper comprising: 
 a mounting assembly adapted to couple the ripper with the work machine;   a carriage assembly including a cross bar, at least one ground engaging shank coupled with the cross bar, and a pair of connecting towers coupled with the cross bar;   a coupling assembly that movably couples the carriage assembly with the mounting assembly, the coupling assembly including a pair of links and a frame member;   a retrieval assembly removably coupled with the carriage assembly, wherein the retrieval assembly includes a mounting bracket and a plurality of mechanical fasteners that removably couple the mounting bracket with the cross bar of the carriage assembly, and wherein each of the plurality of mechanical fasteners has a linear profile or a U-shaped profile; and   a pair of locking mechanisms, wherein each of the pair of locking mechanisms includes at least one linkage that locks the carriage assembly with the mounting assembly to prevent a movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly.    
     
     
         2 . The ripper of  claim 1 , wherein, when each of the plurality of mechanical fasteners has the linear profile, the mounting bracket includes: 
 a central plate;   a pair of mounting plates extending orthogonally from the central plate and disposed at a first side of the central plate; and   a pair of first plates spaced apart from the central plate and disposed at a second side of the central plate, wherein the second side is opposite the first side, wherein each of the pair of first plates is removably coupled with the central plate via at least two mechanical fasteners from the plurality of mechanical fasteners, and wherein a portion of the cross bar is received between the central plate and the pair of first plates to removably couple the mounting bracket with the carriage assembly.   
     
     
         3 . The ripper of  claim 1 , wherein, when each of the plurality of mechanical fasteners has the U-shaped profile, each of the plurality of mechanical fasteners defines a first fastener end and a second fastener end, wherein the first fastener end and the second fastener end are in alignment with each other, and wherein, when each of the plurality of mechanical fasteners has the U-shaped profile, the mounting bracket includes: 
 a central plate, wherein each of the plurality of mechanical fasteners is removably coupled with the central plate at each of the first fastener end and the second fastener end of each of the plurality of mechanical fasteners, and wherein a portion of the cross bar is received within a space defined between the central plate and each of the plurality of mechanical fasteners to removably couple the mounting bracket with the carriage assembly; and   a pair of mounting plates extending orthogonally from the central plate and disposed at a first side of the central plate.   
     
     
         4 . The ripper of  claim 1 , wherein the retrieval assembly further includes a pin adapted to couple the mounting bracket with a machine for towing of the machine.

The ripper of  claim 1 , wherein each of the pair of links has a substantially L-shaped profile, wherein the at least one linkage includes a single linkage having a substantially L-shaped profile, wherein the single linkage includes a first section that is removably coupled with the carriage assembly, a second section that is removably coupled with the mounting assembly, and an intermediate section extending between the first section and the second section, wherein the single linkage locks with a corresponding link from the pair of links to prevent the movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly, and wherein each of the pair of locking mechanisms further includes a coupling element that removably couples the single linkage with the corresponding link from the pair of links to prevent the movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly.  
     
     
         6 . The ripper of  claim 1 , wherein each of the pair of links has a substantially arcuate profile, wherein the at least one linkage includes a single linkage having a substantially arcuate profile, wherein the single linkage includes a first section that is removably coupled with the carriage assembly, a second section that is removably coupled with the mounting assembly, and an intermediate section disposed between the first section and the second section, wherein the single linkage locks with a corresponding link from the pair of links to prevent the movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly, and wherein each of the pair of locking mechanisms further includes a coupling element that removably couples the single linkage with the corresponding link from the pair of links to prevent the movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly.  
     
     
         7 . The ripper of  claim 1 , wherein the at least one linkage includes a single linkage, wherein the single linkage defines a first end and a second end, wherein the single linkage locks with each of the carriage assembly and the mounting assembly to prevent the movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly, wherein the single linkage includes a stay bar, a rope, or a chain, and wherein each of the pair of locking mechanisms further includes: 
 a first coupling element that removably couples the single linkage with the carriage assembly proximal to the first end of the single linkage; and   a second coupling element that removably couples the single linkage with the mounting assembly proximal to the second end of the single linkage.   
     
     
         8 . The ripper of  claim 1 , wherein the at least one linkage includes a first linkage removably coupled with the carriage assembly, wherein the first linkage has a triangular profile, wherein the at least one linkage further includes a second linkage having a substantially linear profile, wherein the second linkage defines a first end and a second end opposite the first end, wherein the second linkage locks with the first linkage to prevent the movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly, and wherein each of the pair of locking mechanisms further includes: 
 a pair of fasteners that removably couple the first linkage with the carriage assembly;   a first coupling element that couples the second linkage with the first linkage proximal to the first end of the second linkage; and   a second coupling element that couples the second linkage with the mounting assembly proximal to the second end of the second linkage.   
     
     
         9 . The ripper of  claim 1 , wherein the frame member includes a pair of lower links spaced apart from each other along a length of the ripper, and wherein each of the pair of lower links has an extruded section. 
     
     
         10 . The ripper of  claim 9 , wherein the at least one linkage includes a first linkage removably coupled with the mounting assembly, wherein the at least one linkage further includes a second linkage removably coupled with the mounting assembly and spaced apart from the first linkage along the length of the ripper, wherein each of the first linkage and the second linkage locks with a corresponding lower link from the pair of lower links to prevent the movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly, and wherein each of the pair of locking mechanisms further includes: 
 a coupling element that removably couples each of the first linkage and the second linkage with the extruded section of the corresponding lower link from the pair of lower links to prevent the movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly.   
     
     
         11 . A work machine comprising: 
 a frame; and   a ripper coupled with the frame, the ripper including: 
 a mounting assembly that couples the ripper with the frame of the work machine; 
 a carriage assembly including a cross bar, at least one ground engaging shank coupled with the cross bar, and a pair of connecting towers coupled with the cross bar; 
 a coupling assembly that movably couples the carriage assembly with the mounting assembly, the coupling assembly including a pair of links and a frame member; 
 a retrieval assembly removably coupled with the carriage assembly, wherein the retrieval assembly includes a mounting bracket and a plurality of mechanical fasteners that removably couple the mounting bracket with the cross bar of the carriage assembly, and wherein each of the plurality of mechanical fasteners has a linear profile or a U-shaped profile; and 
 a pair of locking mechanisms, wherein each of the pair of locking mechanisms includes at least one linkage that locks the carriage assembly with the mounting assembly to prevent a movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly. 
   
     
     
         12 . The work machine of  claim 11 , wherein, when each of the plurality of mechanical fasteners has the linear profile, the mounting bracket includes: 
 a central plate;   a pair of mounting plates extending orthogonally from the central plate and disposed at a first side of the central plate; and   a pair of first plates spaced apart from the central plate and disposed at a second side of the central plate, wherein the second side is opposite the first side, wherein each of the pair of first plates is removably coupled with the central plate via at least two mechanical fasteners from the plurality of mechanical fasteners, and wherein a portion of the cross bar is received between the central plate and the pair of first plates to removably couple the mounting bracket with the carriage assembly.   
     
     
         13 . The work machine of  claim 11 , wherein, when each of the plurality of mechanical fasteners has the U-shaped profile, each of the plurality of mechanical fasteners defines a first fastener end and a second fastener end, wherein the first fastener end and the second fastener end are in alignment with each other, and wherein, when each of the plurality of mechanical fasteners has the U-shaped profile, the mounting bracket includes: 
 a central plate, wherein each of the plurality of mechanical fasteners is removably coupled with the central plate at each of the first fastener end and the second fastener end of each of the plurality of mechanical fasteners, and wherein a portion of the cross bar is received within a space defined between the central plate and each of the plurality of mechanical fasteners to removably couple the mounting bracket with the carriage assembly; and   a pair of mounting plates extending orthogonally from the central plate and disposed at a first side of the central plate.   
     
     
         14 . The work machine of  claim 11 , wherein the retrieval assembly further includes a pin adapted to couple the mounting bracket with a machine for towing of the machine.

The work machine of  claim 11 , wherein each of the pair of links has a substantially L-shaped profile, wherein the at least one linkage includes a single linkage having a substantially L-shaped profile, wherein the single linkage includes a first section that is removably coupled with the carriage assembly, a second section that is removably coupled with the mounting assembly, and an intermediate section extending between the first section and the second section, wherein the single linkage locks with a corresponding link from the pair of links to prevent the movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly, and wherein each of the pair of locking mechanisms further includes a coupling element that removably couples the single linkage with the corresponding link from the pair of links to prevent the movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly.  
     
     
         16 . The work machine of  claim 11 , wherein each of the pair of links has a substantially arcuate profile, wherein the at least one linkage includes a single linkage having a substantially arcuate profile, wherein the single linkage includes a first section that is removably coupled with the carriage assembly, a second section that is removably coupled with the mounting assembly, and an intermediate section disposed between the first section and the second section, wherein the single linkage locks with a corresponding link from the pair of links to prevent the movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly, and wherein each of the pair of locking mechanisms further includes a coupling element that removably couples the single linkage with the corresponding link from the pair of links to prevent the movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly.  
     
     
         17 . The work machine of  claim 11 , wherein the at least one linkage includes a single linkage having a substantially linear profile, wherein the single linkage defines a first end and a second end, wherein the single linkage locks with each of the carriage assembly and the mounting assembly to prevent the movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly, wherein the single linkage includes a stay bar, a rope, or a chain, and wherein each of the pair of locking mechanisms further includes: 
 a first coupling element that removably couples the single linkage with the carriage assembly proximal to the first end of the single linkage; and   a second coupling element that removably couples the single linkage with the mounting assembly proximal to the second end of the single linkage.   
     
     
         18 . The work machine of  claim 11 , wherein the at least one linkage includes a first linkage removably coupled with the carriage assembly, wherein the first linkage has a triangular profile, wherein the at least one linkage further includes a second linkage having a substantially linear profile, wherein the second linkage defines a first end and a second end opposite the first end, wherein the second linkage locks with the first linkage to prevent the movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly, and wherein each of the pair of locking mechanisms further includes: 
 a pair of fasteners that removably couple the first linkage with the carriage assembly;   a first coupling element that couples the second linkage with the first linkage proximal to the first end of the second linkage; and   a second coupling element that couples the second linkage with the mounting assembly proximal to the second end of the second linkage.   
     
     
         19 . The work machine of  claim 11 , wherein the frame member includes a pair of lower links spaced apart from each other along a length of the ripper, and wherein each of the pair of lower links has an extruded section. 
     
     
         20 . The work machine of  claim 19 , wherein the at least one linkage includes a first linkage removably coupled with the mounting assembly, wherein the at least one linkage further includes a second linkage removably coupled with the mounting assembly and spaced apart from the first linkage along the length of the ripper, wherein each of the first linkage and the second linkage locks with a corresponding lower link from the pair of lower links to prevent the movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly, and wherein each of the pair of locking mechanisms further includes: 
 a coupling element that removably couples each of the first linkage and the second linkage with the extruded section of the corresponding lower link from the pair of lower links to prevent the movement of the carriage assembly relative to the mounting assembly.
