Abstract

A fastener device and a fastening system is disclosed. The fastener device includes a body portion including two or more openings forming a ladder loop lock configured to securely engage a strap. The body portion may include two wing portions extending from corners of the body portion which form a recess in a side of the body portion between the two wing portions. When under tension via the strap, the first wing portion and the second wing portion may rest against a loop of material on a surface of an item (e.g., a backpack, a handbag, a suitcase, a briefcase, a cargo bag, or the strap itself).

1 . A fastener device comprising:
 a body portion comprising a first opening and a second opening, the first opening and the second opening configured to form a ladder lock loop for a length of material inserted in the first opening and the second opening;   a first wing portion extending from a first corner of the body portion, the first corner between a first side of the body portion and a second side of the body portion; and   a second wing portion extending from a second corner of the body portion, the second corner between the second side of the body portion and a third side of the body portion, wherein the first wing portion and the second wing portion form a recess at the second side of the body portion.   
     
     
         2 . The fastener device of  claim 1 , wherein the second side is parallel to a fourth side of the body portion between the first side and the third side, and wherein a line perpendicular to the fourth side that passes from the second side through the body portion to the fourth side has a non-zero curvature. 
     
     
         3 . The fastener device of  claim 1 , wherein the first opening comprises a first rectangular slot and the second opening comprises a second rectangular slot parallel to the first rectangular slot. 
     
     
         4 . The fastener device of  claim 3 , wherein the body portion further comprises a third rectangular slot parallel to the first rectangular slot and the second rectangular slot. 
     
     
         5 . The fastener device of  claim 1 , wherein the first wing portion comprises a third opening and wherein the second wing portion comprises a fourth opening. 
     
     
         6 . The fastener device of  claim 1 , wherein the first side forms an angle of less than 90 degrees with the second side, and wherein the third side forms the angle of less than 90 degrees with the second side. 
     
     
         7 . The fastener device of  claim 6 , wherein the second side is parallel to a fourth side of the body portion, wherein the first side forms an angle of greater than 90 degrees with the fourth side, and wherein the third side forms the angle of greater than 90 degrees with the fourth side. 
     
     
         8 . The fastener device of  claim 1 , wherein the fastener device is made of an aluminum alloy. 
     
     
         9 . The fastener device of  claim 1 , wherein the first wing portion and the second wing portion extend beyond the second side by a length at least greater than 10 percent of a height of the body portion. 
     
     
         10 . The fastener device of  claim 1 , wherein the first wing portion extends beyond the first side and the second wing portion extends beyond to the third side by a length greater than 10 percent of a height of the body portion. 
     
     
         11 . The fastener device of  claim 1 , wherein a height of the body portion is less than a width of the body portion. 
     
     
         12 . A fastener device comprising:
 a body portion comprising a first opening and a second opening;   a strap inserted into the first opening and the second opening to form a ladder lock loop;   a first wing portion extending from a first corner of the body portion, the first corner between a first side of the body portion and a second side of the body portion; and   a second wing portion extending from a second corner of the body portion, the second corner between the second side of the body portion and a third side of the body portion, wherein the first wing portion and the second wing portion form a recess at the second side of the body portion.   
     
     
         13 . The fastener device of  claim 12 , wherein the second side is parallel to a fourth side of the body portion between the first side and the third side, and wherein a line perpendicular to the fourth side that passes from the fourth side through the body portion to the fourth side has a non-zero curvature. 
     
     
         14 . The fastener device of  claim 12 , wherein the first opening comprises a first rectangular slot and the second opening comprises a second rectangular slot parallel to the first rectangular slot. 
     
     
         15 . The fastener device of  claim 12 , wherein the first wing portion comprises a third opening and wherein the second wing portion comprises a fourth opening. 
     
     
         16 . The fastener device of  claim 12 , wherein the first side forms an angle of less than 90 degrees with the second side, and wherein the third side forms the angle of less than 90 degrees with the second side. 
     
     
         17 . The fastener device of  claim 16 , wherein the second side is parallel to a fourth side of the body portion, wherein the first side forms an angle of greater than 90 degrees with the fourth side, and wherein the third side forms the angle of greater than 90 degrees with the fourth side. 
     
     
         18 . The fastener device of  claim 12 , wherein the fastener device is made of an aluminum alloy. 
     
     
         19 . A fastening system comprising:
 a loop of material; and   a fastener device configured to pass through the loop and rest against the loop of material under tension, the fastener device comprising:
 a body portion comprising a first opening and a second opening; 
 a strap secured by a ladder lock loop formed by insertion of the strap into the first opening and the second opening, wherein the strap is configured to provide tension of the fastener device against the loop of material; 
 a first wing portion extending from a first corner of the body portion, the first corner between a first side of the body portion and a second side of the body portion; and 
 a second wing portion extending from a second corner of the body portion, the second corner between the second side of the body portion and a third side of the body portion, wherein the first wing portion and the second wing portion form a recess at the second side of the body portion, and wherein under tension, the first wing portion and the second wing portion rest against the loop of material. 
   
     
     
         20 . The fastening system of  claim 19 , wherein a length of any line from a point on a top side of the fastener device to a point on a bottom side of the fastener device that is perpendicular to the second side is less than a width of the loop of material.
