Swim Cap Garment for Voluminous Styled Hair

Abstract

A unisex swim cap garment, designed to accommodate voluminous, long (i.e., beyond the shoulder), or elongated hairstyles such as locs, braids, extensions, and afros is disclosed. The swim cap includes a bulbous, elongated main body formed from a water-resistant, stretchable material and defines a hair-receiving cavity extending from a head-receiving end to a closed rear end. An elastic sealing band at the head-receiving end conforms to the user's head to form a watertight seal. One embodiment includes a buoyant foam insert within the cap for flotation assistance, a pressure sensor module to detect water ingress or internal pressure buildup, and a drawstring adjustment mechanism for a customizable fit. In another embodiment, the cap further incorporates illumination features to enhance visibility in low-light aquatic environments.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A unisex swim cap garment comprising:
 a swim cap having a main body member and an elastic sealing band;   wherein said main body member is flexible;   wherein said main body having an elongated shape;   wherein said swim cap having an open head-receiving end and an extended hair-receiving cavity;   wherein said main body member extends rearwardly from said open head-receiving end to a closed rear end to define said extended hair-receiving cavity;   wherein said extended hair-receiving cavity extends through the length of said main body member; and   further wherein said extended hair-receiving cavity is dimensioned to receive and contain voluminous hairstyles selected from the group consisting of hair locs, hair braids, hair twists, hair afros, hair weaves, and hair extensions.   
     
     
         2 . The unisex swim cap garment of  claim 1 , wherein said main body member is formed from a water-resistant and stretchable material selected from the group consisting of a silicone, a latex, a natural rubber, and a synthetic rubber. 
     
     
         3 . The unisex swim cap garment of  claim 2 , wherein said elastic sealing band encircling said open head-receiving end. 
     
     
         4 . The unisex swim cap garment of  claim 3 , wherein said elastic sealing band is configured to stretch around and conform to the contours of a user's head including the forehead, temples, and nape region. 
     
     
         5 . The unisex swim cap garment of  claim 4 , wherein said elastic sealing band provides a watertight seal around the user's head to enable the user to use said swim cap to keep the voluminous hairstyles dry during aquatic activities. 
     
     
         6 . The unisex swim cap garment of  claim 5 , wherein said main body member having a bulbous dome-shaped configuration to expand around and contain the voluminous hairstyles. 
     
     
         7 . The unisex swim cap garment of  claim 6 , wherein said elastic sealing band of said open head-receiving end securable around the user's forehead and temple region to form said watertight seal. 
     
     
         8 . The unisex swim cap garment of  claim 1 , wherein said main body member having a buoyant foam insert embedded along an inner upper region of said main body member to provide floatation to the user's head. 
     
     
         9 . The unisex swim cap garment of  claim 1 , wherein said elastic sealing band having a drawstring to adjust a dimension of said open head-receiving end. 
     
     
         10 . The unisex swim cap garment of  claim 1 , wherein said swim cap having a pressure sensor module affixed to said main body member to monitor water ingress inside said main body member. 
     
     
         11 . A unisex swim cap garment comprising:
 a swim cap having a main body member and an elastic sealing band;   wherein said main body member is flexible;   wherein said main body having an elongated shape;   wherein said swim cap having an open head-receiving end and an extended hair-receiving cavity;   wherein said main body member extends rearwardly from said open head-receiving end to a closed rear end to define said extended hair-receiving cavity;   wherein said extended hair-receiving cavity extends through the length of said main body member;   wherein said extended hair-receiving cavity is dimensioned to receive and contain voluminous hairstyles selected from the group consisting of hair locs, hair braids, hair twists, hair afros, hair weaves, and hair extensions;   wherein said elastic sealing band encircling said open head-receiving end; and   further wherein said elastic sealing band having a drawstring to adjust a dimension of said open head-receiving end.   
     
     
         12 . The unisex swim cap garment of  claim 11 , wherein said main body member is formed from a water-resistant and stretchable material selected from the group consisting of a silicone, a latex, a natural rubber, and a synthetic rubber. 
     
     
         13 . The unisex swim cap garment of  claim 11 , wherein said elastic sealing band is configured to stretch around and conform to the contours of a user's head including the forehead, temples, and nape region. 
     
     
         14 . The unisex swim cap garment of  claim 11 , wherein said elastic sealing band provides a watertight seal around the user's head to enable the user to use said swim cap to keep the voluminous hairstyles dry during aquatic activities. 
     
     
         15 . The unisex swim cap garment of  claim 11 , wherein said main body member having a bulbous dome-shaped configuration to expand around and contain the voluminous hairstyles. 
     
     
         16 . The unisex swim cap garment of  claim 11 , wherein said elastic sealing band of said open head-receiving end securable around the user's forehead and temple region to form said watertight seal. 
     
     
         17 . The unisex swim cap garment of  claim 11 , wherein said main body member having a buoyant foam insert embedded along an inner upper region of said main body member to provide floatation to the user's head. 
     
     
         18 . The unisex swim cap garment of  claim 11 , wherein said swim cap having a pressure sensor module affixed to said main body member to monitor water ingress inside said main body member. 
     
     
         19 . A method of donning a swim cap over voluminous hairstyles, the method comprising the steps of:
 providing a swim cap having a flexible main body member and an elastic sealing band, wherein said main body having an elongated shape, wherein said swim cap having an open head-receiving end and an extended hair-receiving cavity, wherein said main body member extends rearwardly from said open head-receiving end to a closed rear end to define said extended hair-receiving cavity, wherein said extended hair-receiving cavity extends through the length of said main body member;   grasping said elastic sealing band of said open head-receiving end;   pulling said swim cap over a head of a user;   enclosing the voluminous hairstyle of the user within said extended hair-receiving cavity;   wearing said swim cap over the voluminous hairstyle;   providing a watertight fit of said swim cap with said elastic sealing band disposed around the head of the user; and   swimming with said swim cap while said main body member is partially submerged and extending rearwardly in a bulbous configuration to accommodate the voluminous hairstyle, wherein the voluminous hairstyle selected from the group consisting of hair locs, hair braids, hair twists, hair afros, hair weaves, and hair extensions.   
     
     
         20 . The method of donning a swim cap over voluminous hairstyles  claim 19 , wherein said main body member having a buoyant foam insert embedded along an inner upper region of said main body member to provide floatation to the head of the user.
