Garment with composite nonwoven textile

Abstract

This disclosure relates to a garment including a composite nonwoven textile associated with aesthetics, fit, functionality, and the like. The garment can include an upper-body garment (e.g., hoodie), with a fit that allows for relatively easy or free range of motion. In addition, the garment can include one or more various features that contribute to an aesthetic. For instance, the garment can include a seam construction that includes a relatively flat seam and that also provides an interesting aesthetic in which elements of the composite nonwoven construction are exposed. In some examples, a dual-layer hood assembly can include a seam construction that, for aesthetics and/or functionality, can allow a seam to be positioned on an inward facing surface of the hood. In some examples, the garment can include an elegant pocket construction that is associated with a clean aesthetic and reinforced pocket-opening edges and that is relatively easy to manufacture.

Claimed is: 
     
         1 . An upper-body garment comprising:
 an upper-torso portion comprising an upper margin positioned near a neck opening of the upper-body garment;   a hood coupled, via a first seam, to the upper margin of the upper-torso portion near the neck opening, the hood comprising:
 a face opening comprising a perimeter edge at least partially circumscribing the face opening; 
 a first composite nonwoven textile panel that includes a first web of fibers entangled with a first elastomeric layer, the first composite nonwoven textile panel comprising:
 a first portion comprising an outer-facing surface of the hood; 
 a second portion that is continuous with the first portion and that comprises a fold, the fold comprising the perimeter edge of the face opening; and 
 a third portion that is continuous with the second portion and that comprises at least a first portion of an inner-facing surface of the hood; 
 
 a second composite nonwoven textile panel that comprises at least a second portion of the inner-facing surface of the hood and that includes a second web of fibers entangled with a second elastomeric layer, wherein the second composite nonwoven textile panel is affixed, by a second seam positioned along the inner-facing surface of the hood, to the third portion of the first composite nonwoven textile panel. 
   
     
     
         2 . The upper-body garment of  claim 1 , wherein:
 the second seam and the fold of the second portion intersect with the first seam; and   the second seam is oriented on the inner-facing surface of the hood when the second seam intersects with the first seam.   
     
     
         3 . The upper-body garment of  claim 1 , wherein:
 the first composite nonwoven textile panel comprises a first asymmetric-faced composite nonwoven textile comprising a third web of fibers, which is asymmetric relative to the first web of fibers;   the first web of fibers comprises at least a portion of the outer-facing surface of the hood;   the second composite nonwoven textile panel comprises a second asymmetric-faced composite nonwoven textile comprising a fourth web of fibers, which is asymmetric relative to the second web of fibers; and   the second web of fibers comprises at least a portion of the inner-facing surface.   
     
     
         4 . The upper-body garment of  claim 1 , wherein:
 the upper-torso portion comprises a third composite nonwoven textile panel; and   the first composite nonwoven textile panel and the second composite nonwoven textile panel are coupled, along the first seam, to the third composite nonwoven textile panel.   
     
     
         5 . The upper-body garment of  claim 1 , wherein the second seam includes a merrow stitch. 
     
     
         6 . The upper-body garment of  claim 1 , wherein:
 the first portion of the first composite nonwoven textile panel comprises a first face comprising the outer-facing surface of the hood and a second face that faces towards the second composite nonwoven textile panel; and   the second face is detached from direct attachment to the second seam.   
     
     
         7 . The upper-body garment of  claim 1 , wherein:
 the second seam comprises a first end, a second end, and a set of stitches that extend, around the face opening, from the first end to the second end and that are positioned on the inner-facing surface;   the first end of the second seam intersects with the first seam, when the second seam is oriented on the inner-facing surface of the hood; and   the second end of the second seam intersects with the first seam, when the second seam is oriented on the inner-facing surface of the hood.   
     
     
         8 . The upper-body garment of  claim 1 , wherein the first web of fibers comprises the outer-facing surface of the hood. 
     
     
         9 . An article of apparel comprising:
 a first composite nonwoven textile panel comprising:   a first web of fibers entangled with a first elastomeric layer;   a first face and a second face;   a first panel edge;   a second composite nonwoven textile panel comprising:   a second web of fibers entangled with a second elastomeric layer;   a third face and a fourth face;   a second panel edge; and   a lap joint coupling the first composite nonwoven textile panel to the second composite nonwoven textile panel and comprising:   an overlapping zone comprising the first panel edge overlapping the second panel edge, such that, in the overlapping zone, the second face and the third face are face-to-face;   a seam bisecting the overlapping zone and connecting the first textile panel to the second textile panel; and   the seam being offset from the first panel edge and the second panel edge.   
     
     
         10 . The article of apparel of  claim 9 , wherein the first face comprises an outermost-facing surface of the article of apparel. 
     
     
         11 . The article of apparel of  claim 9 , wherein:
 the first composite nonwoven textile panel comprises a first asymmetric-faced composite nonwoven textile comprising a third web of fibers, which is asymmetric relative to the first web of fibers;   the first web of fibers comprises at least a portion of the first face and the third web of fibers comprises at least a portion of the second face;   the second composite nonwoven textile panel comprises a second asymmetric-faced composite nonwoven textile comprising a fourth web of fibers, which is asymmetric relative to the second web of fibers; and   the second web of fibers comprises at least a portion of the third face and is asymmetric to the third web of fibers.   
     
     
         12 . The article of apparel of  claim 9 , wherein the seam comprises a merrow stitch. 
     
     
         13 . The article of apparel of  claim 9 , wherein:
 the first composite nonwoven textile panel comprises a third web of fibers entangled with the first web of fibers;   the first web of fibers is associated with a first color property that is different than a second color property associated with the third web of fibers; and   the first color property and the second color property are both visible along the first panel edge.   
     
     
         14 . The article of apparel of  claim 9 , wherein:
 the first composite nonwoven textile panel comprises a third web of fibers entangled with the first web of fibers; and   along the first panel edge, the first web of fibers is at least partially detangled from one or more of the first elastomeric layer and the third web of fibers.
