Interactive basketball board game system with modular court and multiple game modes

Abstract

An interactive basketball board game system having a substantially planar surface serving as a game court with removable perimeter borders that define a playing area. The system includes basketball hoops and backboards secured to end borders, and miniature basketballs. The court surface features magnetic-receptive material enabling interchangeable court illustrations. The system incorporates authentic basketball simulation mechanics requiring balls to bounce once before shooting attempts, foul calling systems, and alternating possession rules. The compact, portable design allows for easy assembly, disassembly, and storage while providing comprehensive basketball gameplay experiences suitable for various skill levels and player counts.

1 . A basketball board game system comprising:
 a substantially planar surface configured as a game court comprising a magnetic-receptive material;   a pair of removable end borders configured to be positioned at the opposing ends of, and removably secured to, said planar surface to define a playing area;   at least one basketball hoop removably attached to each end border; and   a miniature basketball configured for gameplay on said game court.

The basketball board game system of  claim 1 , further comprising four removable side borders; a pair of center hubs secured to said planar surface, and permanent corner trims disposed at corners of said planar surface, each corner trim being notched to receive and secure an end of a removable side border. 
     
     
         3 . The basketball board game system of  claim 1 , wherein the basketball hoop comprises a grooved tip sized and configured to pass through an aperture of a backboard and a wall of an end border. 
     
     
         4 . The basketball board game system of  claim 3 , wherein the walls of the end borders comprise an integral trident-shaped support structure to include the apertures for supporting the basketball hoops. 
     
     
         5 . The basketball board game system of  claim 1 , wherein the substantially planar surface is pliable, and can be rolled up for storage. 
     
     
         6 . The basketball board game system of  claim 5 , wherein each of the end borders are removably secured to the planar surface by means of a pair of base support structures, each base support structure comprising a structural framework having vertical members and horizontal members, with triangular gussets positioned between the vertical and horizontal on both sides of the vertical member. 
     
     
         7 . The basketball board game system of  claim 6 , wherein each end border comprises stanchions positioned on opposing sides thereof, wherein each stanchion includes rectangular grooves formed along opposing sides thereof proximate to their respective ends; and wherein base support structures include corresponding rectangular tongues configured for complementary engagement within the rectangular grooves to form a tongue-and-groove connection.

The basketball board game system of  claim 6 , wherein each base support structure includes a rectangular notch formed on its underside, near an end, wherein the planar surface includes a pair of retention posts near each end, and wherein the rectangular notch of each base support structure is dimensioned to be received between the pair of retention posts of the corresponding rigid end strip. 
     
     
         9 . The basketball board game system of  claim 1 , further comprising at least one additional court surface manufactured from magnetic paper, which may be removably secured to the planar surface. 
     
     
         10 . The basketball board game system of  claim 1 , further comprising a pair of pegs, each peg comprising an integral magnet, and being designed to attach to corresponding magnetic areas at the ends of the planar surface. 
     
     
         11 . A method of playing a basketball board game using the system of  claim 3 , comprising:
 attaching the backboards with the basketball hoops to the end borders;   securing the removable end borders to the planar surface;   determining a first shooter through a selection mechanism;   requiring the miniature basketball to bounce once on said game court before entering the basketball hoop;   alternating possession between players after each shooting attempt; and   declaring a winner when a predetermined scoring threshold is achieved.   
     
     
         12 . The method of playing a basketball board game of  claim 11 , wherein three backboards and three basketball hoops are positioned on each end border, and at least one scoring threshold is achieved by successfully shooting the basketball into all three hoops on one end border. 
     
     
         13 . The method of playing a basketball board game of  claim 11 , further including attaching an additional court surface manufactured from magnetic paper to the planar surface. 
     
     
         14 . A basketball board game kit comprising:
 the basketball board game system of  claim 1 ;   a set of instructions detailing functional relationships and preferred usage methods for said system;   wherein said kit is configured for easy assembly, disassembly, and storage; and   wherein said instructions include rules for multiple distinct game modes accommodating various skill levels and player counts.   
     
     
         15 . The basketball board game system of  claim 14 , further comprising four removable side borders; a pair of center hubs secured to said planar surface, and permanent corner trims disposed at corners of said planar surface, each corner trim being notched to receive and secure an end of a removable side border. 
     
     
         16 . The basketball board game system of  claim 14 , wherein the basketball hoops comprise grooved tips sized and configured to pass through apertures of a backboard and a wall of an end border. 
     
     
         17 . The basketball board game system of  claim 14 , wherein the walls of the end borders comprise an integral trident-shaped support structure to include the apertures for supporting the basketball hoops. 
     
     
         18 . The basketball board game system of  claim 14 , wherein the substantially planar surface is pliable, and can be rolled up for storage. 
     
     
         19 . The basketball board game system of  claim 17 , wherein each of the end borders are removably secured to the planar surface by means of a pair of base support structures, each base support structure comprising a structural framework having vertical members and horizontal members, with triangular gussets positioned between the vertical and horizontal on both sides of the vertical member, and wherein each end border comprises stanchions positioned on opposing sides thereof, wherein each stanchion includes rectangular grooves formed along opposing sides thereof proximate to their respective ends; and wherein base support structures include corresponding rectangular tongues configured for complementary engagement within the rectangular grooves to form a tongue-and-groove connection. 
     
     
         20 . The basketball board game system of  claim 14 , further comprising at least one additional court surface manufactured from magnetic paper, which may be removably secured to the planar surface.
