Footwear midfoot support system

Abstract

A golf shoe with a midfoot support system including a lateral strap extending from underfoot and over the midfoot region and a medial strap extending from underfoot inside the upper over the midfoot region. The medial strap extends outwardly from the upper material and is slidably engaged through the free end of the lateral strap. The free end of the medial strap may be engaged with an adjustable closure system to cinch the lateral and medial straps tightly around the midfoot. In some examples, the lateral strap includes a rigid support structure. The midfoot support system allows the foot to be stabilized within the shoe reducing movement of the foot within the shoe. This additional stability and prevention of movement as helpful during the golf swing and shot taking.

         21 . A golf shoe, comprising:
 a sole;   an upper attached to the sole; and   a midfoot support system, comprising:
 a lateral strap attached to the sole, extending upward along at least part of a lateral side of the upper, and incorporating a support structure, and 
 a medial strap attached to the sole and extending upward along at least part of a medial side of the upper, the medial strap being configured to be adjustably coupled to the lateral strap such that, in response to the medial strap being pulled, the medial strap pulls the lateral strap toward the medial side of the upper. 
   
     
     
         22 . The golf shoe of  claim 21 , wherein the medial strap is adjustably movable through an opening in a free end of the lateral strap. 
     
     
         23 . The golf shoe of  claim 21 , wherein the sole comprises an outsole and an insole above the outsole along a thickness direction of the sole, and
 wherein a bottom portion of the lateral strap extends at least partly across the sole towards a medial side of the sole, a bottom portion of the medial strap extends at least partly across the sole towards a lateral side of the sole, and the bottom portion of the medial strap overlaps the bottom portion of the lateral strap along the thickness direction.   
     
     
         24 . The golf shoe of  claim 23 , wherein the bottom portion of the medial strap is above the insole along the thickness direction. 
     
     
         25 . The golf shoe of  claim 21 , wherein the lateral strap extends upward from the sole along an exterior of at least part of the lateral side of the upper, and the medial strap extends upward from the sole along an interior of at least part of the medial side of the upper. 
     
     
         26 . The golf shoe of  claim 21 , wherein the material of support structure has a higher rigidity than the material of the lateral strap. 
     
     
         27 . The golf shoe of  claim 21 , wherein the material of the medial strap differs from the material of the support structure. 
     
     
         28 . A golf shoe, comprising:
 a sole;   an upper attached to the sole; and   a midfoot support system, comprising:
 a lateral strap attached to the sole and extending upward along at least part of a lateral side of the upper, and 
 a medial strap attached to the sole and extending upward along at least part of a medial side of the upper, the medial strap being adjustably movable through an opening in the lateral strap to asymmetrically adjust support provided by the midfoot support system to a wearer's foot. 
   
     
     
         29 . The golf shoe of  claim 28 , wherein the medial strap comprises a plurality of sub-straps, the sub-straps being configured to adjustably move through a plurality of respective openings in the lateral strap. 
     
     
         30 . The golf shoe of  claim 28 , comprising an adjustable closure system configured to engage with a free end of the medial strap. 
     
     
         31 . The golf shoe of  claim 28 , wherein a bottom portion of the medial strap extends from a medial side of the sole at least partly across the sole toward a lateral side of the sole and to a first end of the medial strap. 
     
     
         32 . The golf shoe of  claim 31 , wherein the bottom portion of the medial strap is configured to be pulled upward against a wearer's foot in response to a pulling force being applied to a free end of the medial strap. 
     
     
         33 . The golf shoe of  claim 31 , wherein the sole comprises an outsole and an insole above the outsole,
 wherein the bottom portion of the medial strap is above at least one of the insole or a bottom portion of the lateral strap, and   wherein the bottom portion of the medial strap is attached to the sole only at the first end of the medial strap.   
     
     
         34 . The golf shoe of  claim 31 , wherein a rigid or semi-rigid support structure is incorporated into the lateral strap and is configured to be pulled against a wearer's foot in response to the medial strap being pulled. 
     
     
         35 . A golf shoe, comprising:
 a sole;   an upper attached to the sole; and   a midfoot support system, comprising:
 a lateral strap attached to the sole, extending upward along at least part of a lateral side of the upper, and comprising a first material, the lateral strap incorporating a support structure comprising a second material more rigid than the first material, and 
 a medial strap attached to the sole and configured to couple to the lateral strap such that a first portion of the medial strap extends upward from the sole along at least part of a medial side of the upper to the lateral strap, and a second portion of the medial strap extends downward from the lateral strap along at least part of the medial side of the upper. 
   
     
     
         36 . The golf shoe of  claim 35 , wherein the support structure comprises at least one of a carbon fiber, a thermoset, a thermoplastic, a heat moldable material, or a thermoformable material. 
     
     
         37 . The golf shoe of  claim 35 , wherein the support structure is attached to the lateral strap by at least one of a stitching, an adhesive, or an insert molding. 
     
     
         38 . The golf shoe of  claim 35 , wherein the lateral strap comprises a bottom portion that extends from a lateral side of the sole at least partly across the sole towards the medial side of the sole. 
     
     
         39 . The golf shoe of  claim 38 , wherein the support structure comprises a bottom portion, incorporated in the bottom portion of the lateral strap, and a side portion extending upward along at least part of the lateral side of the upper. 
     
     
         40 . The golf shoe of  claim 35 , wherein the sole extends between an anterior end and a posterior end, and the midfoot support system is spaced apart from each of the anterior end and the posterior end.
