Golf club heads and methods to manufacture golf club heads

Abstract

Embodiments of golf club heads, golf clubs, and methods to manufacture golf club heads and golf clubs are generally described herein. In one example, a golf club head includes a body portion with a first interior portion and a second interior portion. The golf club also includes a first mass portion below a horizontal midplane of the body portion, a second mass portion below the horizontal midplane, a filler material in at least one of the first interior portion of the body portion and the second interior portion of the body portion, and means for separating the first interior portion of the body portion and the second interior portion of the body portion. The first mass portion and the second mass portion have different masses. Other examples and embodiments may be described and claimed.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A golf club head comprising:
 a body portion having a volume of greater than or equal to 25 cubic centimeters and less than or equal to 100 cubic centimeters, the body portion comprising a toe portion with a toe portion edge, a heel portion with a heel portion edge, a front portion, a back portion with a back wall portion, a top portion with a top portion edge, and a sole portion with a sole portion edge;   a face portion coupled to the front portion, the face portion comprising a front surface and a back surface, the front surface comprising a plurality of front grooves and the back surface comprising at least one back groove;   a first mass portion coupled to the body portion below a horizontal midplane of the body portion;   a second mass portion coupled to the body portion below the horizontal midplane; and   a filler material coupled to the back surface of the face portion and extending into an interior portion of the body portion,   wherein the at least one back groove is at least partially filled with the filler material,   wherein a distance between the first mass portion and the heel portion edge is greater than a distance between the first mass portion and the toe portion edge,   wherein a distance between the first mass portion and the toe portion edge is less than a distance between the second mass portion and the toe portion edge, and   wherein a total mass of the first mass portion is different from a total mass of the second mass portion.   
     
     
         2 . A golf club head as defined in  claim 1  further comprising a plate portion in the interior portion of the body portion, wherein the filler material is between the face portion and the plate portion. 
     
     
         3 . A golf club head as defined in  claim 1  further comprising a plate portion in the interior portion of the body portion, wherein the filler material is between the face portion and the plate portion, and wherein a thickness of the plate portion is different from a thickness of the face portion. 
     
     
         4 . A golf club head as defined in  claim 1  further comprising a plate portion in the interior portion of the body portion, wherein the filler material is between the face portion and the plate portion, wherein the plate portion is attached to the face portion. 
     
     
         5 . A golf club head as defined in  claim 1  further comprising a plate portion in the interior portion of the body portion, wherein the filler material is between the face portion and the plate portion, wherein the plate portion is attached to the body portion. 
     
     
         6 . A golf club head as defined in  claim 1 , wherein the filler material is injected into the interior portion of the body portion from a port on the body portion. 
     
     
         7 . A golf club head as defined in  claim 1 , wherein the at least one back groove forms a continuous loop on the back surface of the face portion. 
     
     
         8 . A golf club head comprising:
 a body portion comprising a toe portion with a toe portion edge, a heel portion with a heel portion edge, a front portion including a face portion, a first interior portion, and a second interior portion;   means for supporting the face portion being associated with the first interior portion;   means for dampening vibration being associated with the second interior portion;   a first mass portion comprising a material having a greater density than a material of the body portion, the first mass portion coupled to the body portion below a horizontal midplane of the body portion; and   a second mass portion comprising a material having a greater density than a material of the body portion, the second mass portion coupled to the body portion below the horizontal midplane,   wherein the means for supporting the face portion and the means for dampening vibration have at least one different characteristic,   wherein a total mass of the first mass portion is different from a total mass of the second mass portion,   wherein a distance between the first mass portion and the heel portion edge is greater than a distance between the first mass portion and the toe portion edge, and   wherein a distance between the first mass portion and the toe portion edge is less than a distance between the second mass portion and the toe portion edge.   
     
     
         9 . A golf club head as defined in  claim 8 , wherein the first mass portion or the second mass portion comprises a tungsten-type material. 
     
     
         10 . A golf club head as defined in  claim 8 , wherein a volume of the first interior portion is greater than a volume of the second interior portion. 
     
     
         11 . A golf club head as defined in  claim 8  further comprising a port below the horizontal midplane. 
     
     
         12 . A golf club head as defined in  claim 8  further comprising a port below the horizontal midplane, wherein the port is configured to receive the first mass portion or the second mass portion. 
     
     
         13 . A golf club head as defined in  claim 8  further comprising a port above the horizontal midplane, wherein the port is configured to receive the first mass portion or the second mass portion. 
     
     
         14 . A golf club head as defined in  claim 8  further comprising a port on the body portion, wherein the port, the first mass portion, and the second mass portion are at different locations on the body portion. 
     
     
         15 . An iron-type golf club comprising:
 a shaft having a first end portion and a second end portion;   a grip coupled to the first end portion of the shaft; and   a golf club head coupled to the second end portion of the shaft, the golf club head comprising:
 a body portion comprising a first interior portion, a second interior portion, a toe portion with a toe portion edge, a heel portion with a heel portion edge, a front portion including a face portion, a back portion with a back wall portion, a top portion with a top portion edge, and a sole portion with a sole portion edge; 
 a first mass portion below a horizontal midplane of the body portion; 
 a second mass portion below the horizontal midplane; 
 a filler material in at least one of the first interior portion of the body portion and the second interior portion of the body portion; and 
 means for separating the first interior portion of the body portion and the second interior portion of the body portion, 
 wherein the first mass portion and the second mass portion have different masses. 
   
     
     
         16 . An iron-type golf club as defined in  claim 15 , wherein a volume of the first interior portion is greater than a volume of the second interior portion. 
     
     
         17 . An iron-type golf club as defined in  claim 15  further comprising a port configured to connect an exterior portion of the body portion to at least one of the first interior portion of the body portion and the second interior portion of the body portion, wherein the filler material is injected into the body portion from the port. 
     
     
         18 . An iron-type golf club as defined in  claim 15  further comprising at least one back groove on a back surface of the face portion. 
     
     
         19 . An iron-type golf club as defined in  claim 15 , wherein the first mass portion has a greater mass than the second mass portion, and wherein a distance between the first mass portion and the toe portion edge is less than a distance between the second mass portion and the toe portion edge. 
     
     
         20 . An iron-type golf club as defined in  claim 15 , wherein the means for separating the first interior portion of the body portion and the second interior portion of the body portion comprises a plate portion
