A molding is made from a first flooring plank. A first groove is formed into the first flooring plank with a first flat bottom surface. A second groove is formed into the first flooring plank with a second flat bottom surface. The first flooring plank is folded at the first groove and second groove. A second flooring plank is disposed adjacent to the molding. A color and pattern of the first flooring plank and second flooring plank match.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed:

         1 . A molding, comprising:
a piece of flooring including a bottom surface; a backing attached to the bottom surface of the piece of flooring, wherein a portion of the bottom surface remains exposed from the backing; and a groove formed through the backing and into the piece of flooring, wherein a first section of the piece of flooring on a first side of the groove is larger than a second section of the piece of flooring on a second side of the groove opposite the first section, and wherein the exposed portion of the bottom surface is part of the first section.

2 . The molding of claim 1 , further including a plastic cement attaching the backing to the piece of flooring.

3 . The molding of claim 1 , further including a second groove formed completely through the backing and into the piece of flooring.

4 . The molding of claim 1 , wherein the piece of flooring is folded across the groove.

5 . The molding of claim 1 , further including a stair tread with the molding disposed on the stair tread.

6 . The molding of claim 5 , wherein the bottom surface of the piece of flooring is directly attached to the stair tread with an adhesive.

         7 . A molding, comprising:
a piece of flooring including a bottom surface; a backing attached to the bottom surface of the piece of flooring, wherein a portion of the bottom surface remains exposed from the backing; and a groove formed through the backing and into the piece of flooring.

8 . The molding of claim 7 , further including a plastic cement attaching the backing to the piece of flooring.

9 . The molding of claim 7 , further including a second groove formed completely through the backing and into the piece of flooring.

10 . The molding of claim 7 , wherein the piece of flooring is folded across the groove.

11 . The molding of claim 7 , further including a stair tread with the molding disposed on the stair tread.

12 . The molding of claim 11 , wherein the bottom surface of the piece of flooring is directly attached to the stair tread with an adhesive.

13 . The molding of claim 12 , wherein an edge of the backing oriented toward the stair tread is laterally offset from a top-most surface of the stair tread.

         14 . A method of making a molding, comprising:
providing a piece of flooring including a bottom surface; attaching a backing to the bottom surface of the piece of flooring, wherein a portion of the bottom surface remains exposed from the backing; and forming a groove through the backing and into the piece of flooring after attaching the backing to the piece of flooring.

15 . The method of claim 14 , further including attaching the backing to the piece of flooring using a plastic cement.

16 . The method of claim 14 , further including forming a second groove completely through the backing and into the piece of flooring.

17 . The method of claim 14 , further including folding the piece of flooring across the groove.

18 . The method of claim 14 , further including disposing the molding on a stair tread.

19 . The method of claim 18 , further including directly attaching the bottom surface of the piece of flooring to the stair tread using an adhesive.

20 . The method of claim 19 , further including disposing the piece of flooring with an edge of the backing oriented toward the stair tread laterally offset from a top-most surface of the stair tread.
