Golf club heads and methods to manufacture golf club heads
Abstract
Embodiments of golf club heads and methods to manufacture golf club heads are generally described herein. In one example, a golf club head includes a face portion defining an opening. A face plate is set in the opening. The face plate includes a bezel attached to the opening and a strike assembly set in the bezel. The strike assembly includes at least one metal sheet and at least one composite sheet coupled to the at least one metal sheet. The at least one composite sheet includes a plurality of fibers oriented orthogonally with respect to a substrate of the at least one composite sheet. Other examples and embodiments may be described and claimed.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A golf club head comprising:
a face portion defining an opening; and a face plate in the opening, the face plate comprising:
a bezel attached to the opening; and
a strike assembly in the bezel, the strike assembly comprising:
at least one metal sheet; and
at least one composite sheet coupled to the at least one metal sheet, the at least one composite sheet comprising a plurality of fibers oriented orthogonally with respect to a substrate of the at least one composite sheet.
2 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the plurality of fibers extend in a front-to-rear direction of the golf club head.
3 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the opening comprises an oval or oval-like shape defined by a major axis and a minor axis.
4 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the strike assembly comprises a thickness greater than or equal to 0.125 inch (3.175 mm) and less than or equal to 0.175 inch (5.080 mm).
5 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the at least one metal sheet comprises a titanium material.
6 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the at least one composite sheet has a thickness greater than or equal to a thickness of the at least one metal sheet.
7 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the at least one composite sheet has a thickness less than or equal to a thickness of the at least one metal sheet.
8 . A golf club head comprising:
a face portion defining an opening; and a face plate in the opening, the face plate comprising a composite material coupled to a metal material, the composite material comprising a plurality of fibers oriented orthogonally with respect to a substrate of the composite material.
9 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the plurality of fibers extend in a front-to-rear direction of the golf club head.
10 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the face plate has an outer surface area that is greater than or equal to 50% of an outer surface area of the face portion and less than or equal to 60% of the outer surface area of the face portion.
11 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the composite material further comprises a thermoplastic.
12 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the metal material comprises a titanium alloy.
13 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the composite material is configured as a sheet comprising a thickness greater than or equal to 0.024 inch (0.6096 mm) and less than or equal to 0.105 inch (2.6670 mm).
14 . A golf club head comprising:
a face portion comprising:
a metal shell; and
a composite core encased by the metal shell, the composite core comprising a plurality of fibers oriented orthogonally with respect to a substrate of the composite core.
15 . A golf club head as defined in claim 14 , wherein the plurality of fibers extend in a front-to-rear direction of the golf club head.
16 . A golf club head as defined in claim 14 , wherein the metal shell and the composite core form a sandwiched structure.
17 . A golf club head as defined in claim 14 , wherein the composite core further comprises a thermoplastic.
18 . A golf club head as defined in claim 14 , wherein the metal shell comprises a titanium alloy.
19 . A golf club head as defined in claim 14 , wherein the metal shell and the composite core are uniform in thickness.
20 . A golf club head as defined in claim 14 , configured as a driver-type club head, a fairway wood-type club head, or a hybrid-type club head.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
