Abstract
A packaged terminal air conditioner (PTAC) system includes a wall sleeve in which a chassis is mounted. The wall sleeve includes a bottom configured as a drain pan to collect condensate from the chilling components of the chassis. The floor of the drain pan includes a sloped surface to direct water to the front of the drain pan, and out of the PTAC unit at the outside portion of the PTAC unit. The floor slopes downward from a backwall toward a front edge of the drain pan. This allows the wall sleeve to be mounted level, rather than canted.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A drain pan for a wall sleeve of a packaged terminal air conditioner, comprising:
a back wall; a first sidewall that extends from the back wall to a front edge of the drain pan along a first side; a second sidewall that extends from the back wall to the front edge along a second side, wherein the second sidewall is opposite the first sidewall; and a drain surface that extends from the first sidewall and the second sidewall and from the back wall to a front edge that runs from a front end of the first sidewall to a front end of the second sidewall, wherein the drain surface is sloped downward from the back wall to the front edge of the drain surface to drain water from the drain pan to an outside of a structure in which the wall sleeve is mounted.
2 . The drain pan of claim 1 , wherein the drain surface comprises a plurality of differently angled surface portions that all slope downward in a direction from the back wall to the front edge of the drain pan.
3 . The drain pan of claim 1 , further comprising a front wall along the front edge that has a space at the front edge through which water can drain.
4 . The drain pan of claim 1 , wherein the drain surface slopes downward at an angle of four to twenty degrees.
5 . The drain pan of claim 1 , wherein the back wall has a top, the first sidewall has a top, and the second sidewall has a top, wherein the tops of the back wall and first and second sidewalls are all level when the drain pan is installed in the wall sleeve.
6 . The drain pan of claim 1 , further comprising:
a first mounting ledge disposed along a bottom of the first sidewall; a second mounting ledge disposed along a bottom of the second sidewall; and wherein the first and second mounting ledges extend inward and under the drain surface.
7 . A packaged terminal air conditioner (PTAC) system for a structure having a wall and an opening through the wall, comprising:
a wall sleeve mounted in the opening, wherein the wall sleeve has a top and bottom which are level when the wall sleeve is mounted in the opening; a PTAC chassis having a chassis drain pan mounted in the wall sleeve; and a drain pan mounted in the wall sleeve and configured to receive overflow water from the chassis drain pan and direct the overflow water to an outside of the structure via a sloped drain surface that slopes downward in a direction from inside the structure to outside the structure.
8 . The PTAC system of claim 7 , wherein the drain pan comprises:
a back wall; a first sidewall that extends from the back wall to a front edge of the drain pan along a first side; a second sidewall that extends from the back wall to the front edge along a second side, wherein the second sidewall is opposite the first sidewall; and a drain surface that extends from the first sidewall and the second sidewall and from the back wall to a front edge that runs from a front end of the first sidewall to a front end of the second sidewall, wherein the drain surface is sloped downward from the back wall to the front edge of the drain surface to drain water from the drain pan to an outside of a structure in which the wall sleeve is mounted.
9 . The PTAC system of claim 8 , wherein the drain surface comprises a plurality of differently angled surface portions that all slope downward in a direction from the back wall to the front edge of the drain pan.
10 . The PTAC system of claim 8 , further comprising a front wall along the front edge that has a space at the front edge through which water can drain.
11 . The PTAC system of claim 8 , wherein the drain surface slopes downward at an angle of four to twenty degrees.
12 . The PTAC system of claim 8 , wherein the back wall has a top, the first sidewall has a top, and the second sidewall has a top, wherein the tops of the back wall and first and second sidewalls are all level when the drain pan is installed in the wall sleeve.
13 . The PTAC system of claim 8 , further comprising:
a first mounting ledge disposed along a bottom of the first sidewall; a second mounting ledge disposed along a bottom of the second sidewall; and wherein the first and second mounting ledges extend inward and under the drain surface.
14 . A method of mounting a packaged terminal air conditioner (PTAC) system in an opening of a structure, comprising:
mounting a wall sleeve in the opening, wherein the wall sleeve is mounted level in the opening such that a top and a bottom of the wall sleeve are in parallel planes and level; inserting a wall sleeve drain pan into a bottom of the wall sleeve, the wall sleeve drain pan being having a drain surface that is angled downward in a direction from inside the structure to outside the structure; and inserting a PTAC chassis into the wall sleeve over the wall sleeve drain pan, wherein the PTAC chassis includes a chassis drain pan that is configured to drain into the wall sleeve drain pan.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein inserting the wall sleeve drain pan comprises inserting the wall sleeve drain pan having:
a back wall; a first sidewall that extends from the back wall to a front edge of the drain pan along a first side; a second sidewall that extends from the back wall to the front edge along a second side, wherein the second sidewall is opposite the first sidewall; and the drain surface extends from the first sidewall and the second sidewall and from the back wall to a front edge that runs from a front end of the first sidewall to a front end of the second sidewall, wherein the drain surface is sloped downward from the back wall to the front edge of the drain surface to drain water from the drain pan to an outside of a structure in which the wall sleeve is mounted.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
