Abstract

A method for installing a cabinet on a wall-mounted cleat hanger is disclosed herein. The method comprises: providing a cabinet having right, left, upper, lower, and rear panels defining a cavity; the cabinet having a first elongated recess in a rear-exterior edge of the right-panel extending vertically from substantially near the upper panel to substantially near the lower-panel, and a second elongated recess in a rear exterior edge of the left panel extending vertically from substantially near the upper panel to substantially near the lower panel. Each recess includes an upper surface angled toward the cavity and a lower surface angled diagonally down and toward the cavity. The method further includes aligning the first elongated recess and the second elongated recess with the wall cleat hanger and engaging the wall cleat hanger with the first elongated recess and the second elongated recess to support the cabinet on the wall.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method of installing a cabinet on a wall cleat hanger affixed to a wall, the method comprising:
 providing a cabinet comprising a right panel, a left panel, an upper panel, a lower panel, and a rear panel that define a cavity, the cabinet further comprising:
 a first elongated recess formed in a rear exterior edge of the right panel that vertically extends from substantially near the upper panel to substantially near the lower panel; and 
 a second elongated recess formed in a rear exterior edge of the left panel that vertically extends from substantially near the upper panel to substantially near the lower panel; 
 wherein each of the first elongated recess and the second elongated recess comprises an upper surface angled diagonally up and toward the cavity and a lower surface angled diagonally down and toward the cavity; 
   aligning the first elongated recess and the second elongated recess with the wall cleat hanger; and engaging the wall cleat hanger with the first elongated recess and the second elongated recess to support the cabinet on the wall.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein engaging the wall cleat hanger comprises lining up the first elongated recess and the second elongated recess with a terminal end of the wall cleat hanger and sliding the cabinet along the wall cleat hanger to a selected position. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein engaging the wall cleat hanger comprises positioning the upper surfaces of the first elongated recess and the second elongated recess above the wall cleat hanger and lowering the cabinet until the upper surfaces catch the wall cleat hanger, each of the first elongated recess and the second elongated recess being open at a lower end along its vertical extent. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising removing the cabinet from the wall cleat hanger, rotating the cabinet 180 degrees about a horizontal axis extending front-to-back of the cabinet, and reinstalling the cabinet on the wall cleat hanger to reverse a door-swing orientation. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 4 , wherein the first elongated recess and the second elongated recess are mirror images across a horizontal axis of the cabinet such that, after the 180-degree rotation, the cabinet securely rests on the wall cleat hanger. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein a rear panel of the cabinet is offset into the cavity by a distance sufficient to allow the first elongated recess and the second elongated recess to receive and rest on the wall cleat hanger, thereby maintaining a clearance between a posterior surface of the rear panel and the wall. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein no fasteners are required between the cabinet and the wall cleat hanger to support the cabinet on the wall. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the provided cabinet further includes at least one door attached to an interior surface of a cabinet panel and configured to open outward. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , prior to the aligning step, further comprising affixing an extendable wall cleat hanger across at least a portion of the wall to support more than one cabinet, and sliding the cabinet along the wall cleat hanger to a selected position among multiple cabinets. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the provided cabinet includes the first elongated recess and the second elongated recess dimensioned to receive and be substantially flush with the wall cleat hanger when engaged. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein a shape of the wall cleat hanger substantially matches a shape of at least one of the first elongated recess and the second elongated recess to provide a snug fit. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the wall cleat hanger comprises wood, plastic, or metal including aluminum. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 1 , prior to the aligning step, further comprising installing the wall cleat hanger at a selected height on the wall. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein each of the first elongated recess and the second elongated recess is open at a lower end along its vertical extent to facilitate the lowering-and-catch engagement with the wall cleat hanger.
