Ice maker and refrigerator
Abstract
An ice maker includes an upper assembly having an upper tray that defines upper portions of a plurality of ice making chambers. The ice maker also includes a lower assembly that is located vertically below the upper assembly and configured rotate relative to the upper assembly. The lower assembly includes a lower tray that defines lower portions of the plurality of ice making chambers, and a lower support that is configured to receive the lower tray and restrict an outward expansion of the lower portions of the plurality of ice making chambers. The lower tray includes a lower tray body configured to hold a first volume of water, and a circumferential wall that extends upward from the lower tray body and is configured to hold a second volume of water above the first volume of water.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . An ice maker comprising:
a first tray comprising a first tray body defining a first chamber; and a second tray comprising a second tray body defining a second chamber and a retaining wall, wherein the second tray is rotatable about a rotation axis between an open position spaced apart from the first tray and a closed position in contact with the first tray, wherein, in the closed position, the retaining wall surrounds at least a portion of the first tray body, wherein the retaining wall comprises a first straight portion and a first curved portion, and wherein the first curved portion is positioned closer to the rotation axis than the first straight portion.
2 . The ice maker of claim 1 , wherein the first straight portion comprises a portion of the retaining wall that is farthest from the rotation axis, and
wherein the first curved portion comprises a portion of the retaining wall that is closest to the rotation axis.
3 . The ice maker of claim 1 , wherein the first straight portion is extended linearly from the second tray body, and
wherein the first curved portion is curved away from the second chamber and toward the rotation axis.
4 . The ice maker of claim 1 , wherein the first curved portion is made thicker compared to remaining portions of the retaining wall.
5 . The ice maker of claim 1 , wherein, in the closed position, the retaining wall and the first tray body are spaced apart from each other.
6 . The ice maker of claim 1 , wherein the first tray body comprises a second curved portion and a second straight portion, and
wherein the second curved portion is positioned closer to the rotation axis than the second straight portion.
7 . The ice maker of claim 6 , wherein the second curved portion is curved toward the rotation axis.
8 . The ice maker of claim 6 , wherein the first straight portion and the first curved portion are configured to surround the second straight portion and the second curved portion, respectively.
9 . The ice maker of claim 6 , wherein a first water escape passage is defined between the first straight portion and the second straight portion, and
wherein a second water escape passage is defined between the first curved portion and the second curved portion.
10 . A refrigerator comprising the ice maker of claim 1 .
11 . An ice maker comprising:
a first tray comprising a first tray body defining a first chamber; and a second tray comprising a second tray body defining a second chamber and a retaining wall, wherein the second tray is rotatable about a rotation axis between an open position spaced apart from the first tray and a closed position in contact with the first tray, wherein the retaining wall extends in a direction opposite to a recessed direction of the second chamber, wherein the retaining wall comprises a first straight portion and a first curved portion, and wherein the first curved portion is positioned closer to the rotation axis than the first straight portion.
12 . The ice maker of claim 11 , wherein the first straight portion comprises a portion of the retaining wall that is farthest from the rotation axis, and
wherein the first curved portion comprises a portion of the retaining wall that is closest to the rotation axis.
13 . The ice maker of claim 11 , wherein the first straight portion is extended linearly from the second tray body, and
wherein the first curved portion is curved away from the second chamber and toward the rotation axis.
14 . The ice maker of claim 11 , wherein the first curved portion is made thicker compared to remaining portions of the retaining wall.
15 . The ice maker of claim 11 , wherein, in the closed position, the retaining wall and the first tray body are spaced apart from each other.
16 . The ice maker of claim 11 , wherein the first tray body comprises a second curved portion and a second straight portion, and
wherein the second curved portion is positioned closer to the rotation axis than the second straight portion.
17 . The ice maker of claim 16 , wherein the second curved portion is curved toward the rotation axis.
18 . The ice maker of claim 16 , wherein the first straight portion and the first curved portion are configured to surround the second straight portion and the second curved portion, respectively.
19 . The ice maker of claim 16 , wherein a first water escape passage is defined between the first straight portion and the second straight portion, and
wherein a second water escape passage is defined between the first curved portion and the second curved portion.
