Conveyance protection device, method, and system
Abstract
A conveyance protection arrangement, including a conveyance, an interconnection that connects equipment to the conveyance, a protection device on the conveyance, the protection device being proud of the conveyance. A method for running a conveyance in a borehole including connecting to the conveyance, a downhole tool, connecting to the conveyance, a protection device, running the conveyance with the tool and protection device through a stuffing box, pulling the conveyance out of the hole, and contacting the stuffing box with the protection device. A borehole system, including a borehole in a subsurface formation, a string disposed in the borehole, a conveyance protection device, disposed within or as a part of the string.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A conveyance protection arrangement, comprising:
a conveyance; an interconnection that connects equipment to the conveyance; a protection device on the conveyance, the protection device being proud of the conveyance.
2 . The arrangement as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the conveyance is one of a coiled tubing, a slickline or a wireline.
3 . The arrangement as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the interconnection is one of a connector, rope socket, or cablehead.
4 . The arrangement as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the protection device comprises a body formed annularly or part annularly.
5 . The arrangement as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the protection device includes an anchoring feature on an inside surface thereof configured to interact with an outside surface of the conveyance to positionally anchor the protection device to the conveyance.
6 . The arrangement as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the anchoring feature is wickers.
7 . The arrangement as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the protection device is configured as a shaft collar.
8 . The arrangement as claimed in claim 7 , wherein the shaft collar has a single split and a fastener to close and retain the collar around the conveyance.
9 . The arrangement as claimed in claim 7 , wherein the shaft collar has a plurality of splits, at least one of the plurality of splits having an associated fastener to close and retain the collar around the conveyance.
10 . A method for running a conveyance in a borehole comprising:
connecting to the conveyance, a downhole tool; connecting to the conveyance, a protection device; running the conveyance with the tool and protection device through a stuffing box; pulling the conveyance out of the hole; and contacting the stuffing box with the protection device.
11 . The method as claimed in claim 10 , wherein the contacting stops the movement of the conveyance.
12 . The method as claimed in claim 11 , further comprising controlling the borehole and modifying the stuffing box to allow retrieval of the conveyance.
13 . A borehole system, comprising:
a borehole in a subsurface formation; a string disposed in the borehole; a conveyance protection device as claimed in claim 1 , disposed within or as a part of the string.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
