Urinal screen

Abstract

A urinal screen includes a body having an upwardly facing surface and a downwardly facing surface, and a plurality of splash deflection fingers extending outwardly from the upwardly facing surface. Each splash deflection finger has one of a curved, bent, and contoured shape.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A urinal screen comprising:
 a body having an upwardly facing surface and a downwardly facing surface; and   a plurality of splash deflection fingers extending outwardly from the upwardly facing surface;   wherein each splash deflection finger has one of a curved, bent, and contoured shape.   
     
     
         2 . The urinal screen according to  claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of splash deflection fingers includes:
 a lower portion that extends upwardly from the upwardly facing surface of the body; and   an upper portion that extends at an angle from the lower portion.   
     
     
         3 . The urinal screen according to  claim 2 , wherein each of the plurality of splash deflection fingers is cylindrical in shape, having an upper surface that is convexly curved and a lower surface that is flat and faces generally downwardly toward the body. 
     
     
         4 . The urinal screen according to  claim 3 , wherein the body is planar in shape and includes an outer perimeter portion having a plurality of cross bar portions extending thereacross and defining large, elongated openings. 
     
     
         5 . The urinal screen according to  claim 4 , wherein each of the cross bar portions of the body has an elongated splash deflector bar formed thereon. 
     
     
         6 . The urinal screen according to  claim 5 , wherein the splash deflector bars are semi-circular in cross-sectional shape. 
     
     
         7 . The urinal screen according to  claim 6 , wherein the downwardly facing surface of the body has a plurality of recesses provided therein; and
 wherein the recesses are configured and positioned to increase the flexibility of the body, allowing the urinal screen to conform to the shape of a urinal in which the urinal screen is placed.   
     
     
         8 . The urinal screen according to  claim 7 , wherein the downwardly facing surface of the body has a plurality of standoff protrusions that extend outwardly therefrom; and
 wherein standoff protrusions are configured and positioned to provide a space between the downwardly facing surface of the body and an upper surface of the urinal in which the urinal screen is placed, thereby creating a space through which urine may flow freely into a drain portion of the urinal.   
     
     
         9 . The urinal screen according to  claim 8 , wherein at least a portion of the body is formed from biodegradable material. 
     
     
         10 . The urinal screen according to  claim 8 , wherein at least a portion of the body is formed having enzyme additive one of provided therein and coated thereon, the enzyme additive configured to mitigate the attraction of flies and other insects to the urinal screen during use. 
     
     
         11 . The urinal screen according to  claim 8 , wherein at least a portion of the body is impregnated with a scented substance designed to slowly release a scent pleasant to humans over a period of time. 
     
     
         12 . A urinal screen comprising:
 a body having an upwardly facing surface and a downwardly facing surface;   wherein the body is planar in shape and includes an outer perimeter portion having a plurality of cross bar portions extending thereacross and defining large, elongated openings;   wherein the downwardly facing surface of the body has a plurality of recesses provided therein;   wherein the recesses are configured and positioned to increase the flexibility of the body, allowing the urinal screen to conform to the shape of a urinal in which the urinal screen is placed;   wherein the downwardly facing surface of the body has a plurality of standoff protrusions that extend outwardly therefrom; and   wherein standoff protrusions are configured and positioned to provide a space between the downwardly facing surface of the body and an upper surface of the urinal in which the urinal screen is placed, thereby creating a space through which urine may flow freely into a drain portion of the urinal; and   a plurality of splash deflection fingers extending outwardly from the upwardly facing surface;   wherein each splash deflection finger:
 has one of a curved, bent, and contoured shape; 
 includes a lower portion that extends upwardly from the upwardly facing surface of the body, and an upper portion that extends at an angle from the lower portion; and 
 is cylindrical in shape, having an upper surface that is convexly curved and a lower surface that is flat and faces generally downwardly toward the body. 
   
     
     
         13 . The urinal screen according to  claim 12 , wherein each of the cross bar portions of the body has an elongated splash deflector bar formed thereon. 
     
     
         14 . The urinal screen according to  claim 13 , wherein the splash deflector bars are semi-circular in cross-sectional shape. 
     
     
         15 . The urinal screen according to  claim 12 , wherein at least a portion of the body is formed from biodegradable material. 
     
     
         16 . The urinal screen according to  claim 12 , wherein at least a portion of the body is formed having enzyme additive one of provided therein and coated thereon, the enzyme additive configured to mitigate the attraction of flies and other insects to the urinal screen during use. 
     
     
         17 . The urinal screen according to  claim 12 , wherein at least a portion of the body is impregnated with a scented substance designed to slowly release a scent pleasant to humans over a period of time. 
     
     
         18 . A urinal screen comprising:
 a body having an upwardly facing surface and a downwardly facing surface;   wherein the body is planar in shape and includes an outer perimeter portion having a plurality of cross bar portions extending thereacross and defining large, elongated openings; and   a plurality of splash deflection fingers extending outwardly from the upwardly facing surface;   wherein each splash deflection finger has one of a curved, bent, and contoured shape;   wherein each of the cross bar portions of the body has an elongated splash deflector bar formed thereon; and wherein the splash deflector bars are semi-circular in cross-sectional shape.   
     
     
         19 . The urinal screen according to  claim 18 , wherein each splash deflection finger:
 has one of a curved, bent, and contoured shape;   includes a lower portion that extends upwardly from the upwardly facing surface of the body, and an upper portion that extends at an angle from the lower portion; and   is cylindrical in shape, having an upper surface that is convexly curved and a lower surface that is flat and faces generally downwardly toward the body.   
     
     
         20 . The urinal screen according to  claim 19 , wherein the downwardly facing surface of the body has a plurality of recesses provided therein;
 wherein the recesses are configured and positioned to increase the flexibility of the body, allowing the urinal screen to conform to the shape of a urinal in which the urinal screen is placed;   wherein the downwardly facing surface of the body has a plurality of standoff protrusions that extend outwardly therefrom; and   wherein standoff protrusions are configured and positioned to provide a space between the downwardly facing surface of the body and an upper surface of the urinal in which the urinal screen is placed, thereby creating a space through which urine may flow freely into a drain portion of the urinal;   each of the plurality of splash deflection fingers is cylindrical in shape, having an upper surface that is convexly curved and a lower surface that is flat and faces generally downwardly toward the body.
