Golf bag with collapsible pocket assembly

Abstract

Described herein is a golf bag with a collapsible pocket assembly. The golf bag can comprise a first pocket, a second pocket, and a third pocket, wherein the third pocket comprises a wall. The third pocket wall can comprise a first region and a second region, wherein the first region of the third pocket wall is the same wall as at least one of the sidewalls of the second pocket. When shipping golf bags, the golf bag flats oftentimes must be shipped separately from the golf bag tops. The instant golf bag can be collapsed for shipping, allowing the golf bag tops to be partially installed onto the golf bag flats prior to shipping, reducing shipping and assembly labor costs.

1 . A golf club bag with a front side, a back side, a bag cavity, and a flat, comprising;
 a collapsible pocket assembly, comprising;
 a first pocket comprising a first pocket rim, a lid surrounded by and aligned with the first pocket rim, and a pull tab; 
 a second pocket located below the first pocket, comprising an opening panel and a second pocket zipper surrounding the opening panel, the second pocket defining a volume and a height, measured from the front side to the back side of the golf club bag perpendicular to the opening panel; 
 a hinge located adjacent a seam between the first pocket and the second pocket; 
 a third pocket comprising a third pocket panel, a third pocket zipper surrounding the third pocket panel, a sidewall that is shared with the second pocket and extends along a side of the flat, an internal first mesh pocket located adjacent the sidewall, and an internal second mesh pocket on the inside of the third pocket panel, wherein the internal first mesh pocket is independent of the internal second mesh pocket to permit separation therebetween; 
   the golf club bag having a deployed configuration and a collapsed configuration, the golf club bag in the collapsed configuration, comprising;
 the second pocket zipper being unzipped, and the opening panel partially overlapping the lid of the first pocket, when the first pocket is in a closed position; 
 the third pocket zipper being unzipped so that when the first and second pockets are compressed into the bag cavity by force, a collapsing motion places a force on the hinge and the lid is folded down and substantially planar with the back side, wherein the third pocket panel partially extends over a collapsed second pocket, thereby folding the first and second pockets into the bag cavity; 
   wherein the volume of the second pocket in the collapsed configuration is 20%-30% less than the volume of the second pocket in the deployed configuration; and   wherein the height of the second pocket in the collapsed configuration is 20%-30% less than the height of the second pocket in the deployed configuration.   
     
     
         2 . The golf club bag of  claim 1 , wherein the third pocket zipper curves away from the front side of the golf club bag below the sidewall, extends parallel to the second pocket zipper along the sidewall, and curves back to the front side of the golf club bag above the sidewall. 
     
     
         3 . The golf club bag of  claim 1 , wherein each of the second pocket and the third pocket comprises an inner lining formed of a first material and an exterior panel formed of a second material different from the first material. 
     
     
         4 . The golf club bag of  claim 3 , wherein the first material is more flexible than the second material. 
     
     
         5 . The golf club bag of  claim 1 , wherein the height of the second pocket in the deployed configuration is 3.0 inches to 4.0 inches. 
     
     
         6 . The golf club bag of  claim 1 , wherein the lid maintains alignment with the first pocket rim when the golf club bag is in the collapsed configuration. 
     
     
         7 . The golf club bag of  claim 1 , wherein the golf club bag further comprises a folio pocket. 
     
     
         8 . The golf club bag of  claim 1 , wherein the flat further comprises a flip down pocket located in an upper half of the golf club bag. 
     
     
         9 . The golf club bag of  claim 8 , wherein the flip down pocket is located on the front side or the back side of the golf club bag. 
     
     
         10 . The golf club bag of  claim 8 , wherein the flip down pocket comprises a top edge, a bottom edge, and side edges. 
     
     
         11 . The golf club bag of  claim 10 , wherein the flip down pocket is removably attached at the top edge of the flip down pocket and permanently secured at the bottom edge of the flip down pocket.
