Abstract

A ballistic desk device is provided. The device is comprised of a ballistic desk device configured as a dual-purpose structure that functions both as a traditional desk and a deployable ballistic shield suitable for educational, governmental, or institutional settings requiring operational utility and protective capability. The device comprises a tabletop with foldable or telescopic legs with height adjustment and leveling mechanisms for stability on uneven surfaces. A ballistic shield is integrated into the underside of the tabletop and is preferably constructed from aramid or UHMWPE fabrics arranged in layered, crosshatch patterns for energy dispersion and protection aligned with NIJ Level II-A through Level IV standards. In one embodiment, the shield is removable from the tabletop to provide both stationary and mobile defense functionality during emergencies.

Claims

What is claimed is:

         1 . A ballistic desk device comprising:
a tabletop; a frame configured to support the tabletop, the frame comprising a leg; and a ballistic shield mounted to a bottom surface of the tabletop.

2 . The ballistic desk device of claim 1 , wherein the tabletop is comprised of a rounded edge.

3 . The ballistic desk device of claim 1 , wherein the tabletop is comprised of a protective coating.

4 . The ballistic desk device of claim 1 , wherein the frame is comprised of a foldable frame.

5 . The ballistic desk device of claim 1 , wherein the ballistic shield is comprised of a ballistic outer body.

6 . The ballistic desk device of claim 1 , wherein the ballistic shield is comprised of a ballistic fabric.

7 . The ballistic desk device of claim 1 , wherein the ballistic shield is comprised of an NIJ Level III ballistic shield.

         8 . A ballistic desk device comprising:
a tabletop; a frame configured to support the tabletop, the frame comprising a leg; and a ballistic shield mounted to a bottom surface of the tabletop, wherein the ballistic shield comprises a layer of a ballistic fabric.

9 . The ballistic desk device of claim 8 , wherein the leg is comprised of a foldable leg.

10 . The ballistic desk device of claim 8 , wherein the ballistic shield is comprised of a NIJ Level III ballistic shield.

11 . The ballistic desk device of claim 8 , wherein the ballistic fabric is comprised of an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene.

12 . The ballistic desk device of claim 8 , wherein the leg is comprised of a repositionable foot.

         13 . A ballistic desk device comprising:
a tabletop; a frame configured to support the tabletop, the frame comprising a leg; and a ballistic shield removably mounted to a bottom surface of the tabletop, the ballistic shield comprised of a handle and a plurality of layers of a ballistic fabric.

14 . The ballistic desk device of claim 13 , wherein the leg is comprised of a telescopic leg.

15 . The ballistic desk device of claim 14 further comprised of a locking mechanism.

16 . The ballistic desk device of claim 13 , wherein the plurality of layers of the ballistic fabric are arranged in a crosshatch pattern.

17 . The ballistic desk device of claim 13 , wherein the ballistic shield is comprised of an NIJ Level III ballistic shield.

18 . The ballistic desk device of claim 13 , wherein the ballistic shield is comprised of a transparent viewing window.

19 . The ballistic desk device of claim 13 , wherein the ballistic shield removably attaches to the bottom surface via a mechanical fastener.

20 . The ballistic desk device of claim 13 , wherein the ballistic fabric is comprised of an aramid.
