Abstract
The present concept is an air communicating trim molding for installation as a baseboard and a casing is of pre-selected longitudinal length and includes a bottom surface, a top surface, and an intermediate surface spaced between the bottom and top surface, wherein the bottom surface abuts against a wall surface in an installed position. An air passageway communicates exterior air into and out of the air passageway, wherein the air passageway includes the space between the wall surface and the intermediate surface and communicate air along the air passageway when the trim molding is in an installed position. The air communicating trim molding includes edge openings wherein the edge openings communicate exterior air into and out of the air passageways. It further includes protrusions of preselected size extending laterally between the intermediate surface and the bottom surface and dimensioned and spaced apart to create the edge openings.

exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . An air communicating trim molding for installation as a baseboard and a casing, the air communicating trim molding comprises;
a) a bottom side, a top side, a left edge, and a right edge, and is of pre-selected longitudinal length, b) a bottom surface, a top surface, and an intermediate surface spaced between the bottom and top surface, wherein the bottom surface abuts against a wall surface in an installed position, c) an air passageway which is adapted to communicate exterior air into and out of the air passageway, wherein the air passageway includes the space between the wall surface and the intermediate surface and is configured to communicate air along the air passageway when the trim molding is in an installed position.
2 . The air communicating trim molding claimed in claim 1 further includes edge openings defined along at least one edge of the trim molding, wherein the edge openings are configured to communicate exterior air into and out of the air passageways.
3 . The air communicating trim molding claimed in claim 2 , further includes protrusions of preselected size extending laterally between the intermediate surface and the bottom surface and dimensioned and spaced apart to create the edge openings.
4 . The air communicating trim molding claimed in claim 3 , wherein the protrusions are spacer blocks of preselected size, the spacer blocks include an attachment surface for attachment to the trim molding.
5 . The air communicating trim molding claimed in claim 4 wherein the attachment surface includes a peel and stick adhesive for attachment to the trim molding.
6 . The air communicating trim molding claimed in claim 2 wherein the air communicating trim molding is selected from the following: a door casing, a window casing, and a floor baseboard.
7 . The air communicating trim molding claimed in claim 2 further includes edge openings defined in the right and left edges, such that the air passageways communicate air with the edge openings.
8 . The air communicating trim molding claimed in claim 2 wherein the bottom surface is a planar surface, and the intermediate surface is a planar surface disposed parallel to and spaced from the bottom surface.
9 . An air communicating adjustable width trim molding for installation as a baseboard and a casing, the air communicating adjustable width trim molding comprises;
a) a left portion of preselected longitudinal length and lateral width, b) a right portion of preselected longitudinal length and lateral width, c) a connecting element of preselected longitudinal length and lateral width, configured to laterally slidably connect the left portion to the right portion thereby providing for selective width adjustment, d) a bottom side, a top side, a left edge, and a right edge, and is of pre-selected longitudinal length, e) a bottom surface, a top surface, and an intermediate surface spaced between the bottom and top surface, wherein the bottom surface abuts against a wall surface in an installed position, e) an air passageway which is adapted to communicate exterior air into and out of the passageway, wherein the air passageway includes the space between the wall surface and the intermediate surface and is configured to communicate air along the air passageway when the trim molding is in an installed position.
10 . In combination, the air communicating adjustable width trim molding claimed in claim 9 and a prepared door frame, the combination comprises;
a) a prepared door frame includes an air gap which communicates air between an exterior side and an interior side of the prepared door frame, and
b) wherein the air communicating adjustable width trim molding is a door casing and is in the installed position on the interior side and the exterior side of the prepared door frame, wherein the combination is configured to provide a continuous air conduit for air exchange between the interior and exterior side of the prepared door frame, by communicating air along the continuous air conduit which includes the air passageways, and the air gap.
11 . The combination claimed in claim 10 wherein the connecting element of preselected longitudinal length, is a planar element configured to be integrally part of one of the portions, wherein the other portion includes a groove for slidably receiving a selective amount of the planar element therein, thereby providing for selective width adjustment.
12 . The combination claimed in claim 10 wherein;
a) the connecting portion includes a planar element,
b) and wherein the right portion and the left portion includes a right groove and a left groove respectively, each groove is of preselected transverse depth, wherein the left and right grooves are adapted for slidably receiving a selective amount of the planar element therein, thereby providing for selective width adjustment.
13 . A spacer block kit for attachment onto the bottom side of a trim molding, the spacer block kit comprises;
a) a preselected number of spacer blocks, wherein each block includes a contact surface and an attachment surface, b) the attachment surface adapted to attach to an intermediate surface on a bottom side of the trim molding, wherein the trim molding includes a left edge and right edge, c) wherein the contact surface adapted to abut against a wall surface in an installed position; d) an air passageway which is adapted to communicate exterior air into and out of the air passageway, wherein the air passageway includes the space between the wall surface and the intermediate surface and is configured to communicate air along the air passageway when the trim molding is in an installed position.
14 . A spacer block kit for attachment onto the bottom side of a trim molding, claimed in claim 13 further comprising edge openings which are the longitudinal space between spacer blocks along at least one edge of the trim molding, wherein the spacer blocks extend between the intermediate surface and the wall surface when in an installed position, such that exterior air is communicated into or out of the air passageways through the edge openings.
15 . In combination, the air communicating trim molding claimed in claim 1 and a prepared door frame, the combination comprises;
a) a prepared door frame includes an air gap which communicates air between an exterior side and an interior side of the prepared door frame,
b) wherein the air communicating trim molding is a door casing and is in the installed position on both the interior side and the exterior side of the prepared door frame,
c) a continuous air conduit, which includes the air passageways and the air gap, for air exchange between the interior and exterior side of the prepared door frame by communicating air along the continuous air conduit.
16 . The air communicating trim molding claimed in claim 15 further includes edge openings defined along at least one edge of the trim molding, wherein the edge openings are configured to communicate exterior air into and out of the passageways.
17 . The air communicating trim molding claimed in claim 16 , further includes protrusions of preselected size extending laterally between the intermediate surface and the bottom surface and dimensioned and spaced apart to create the edge openings.
18 . The air communicating trim molding claimed in claim 17 , wherein the protrusions are spacer blocks of preselected size, the spacer blocks include an attachment surface for attachment to the trim molding.
