Deck extender for watercraft

Abstract

A deck extender for a personal watercraft can include a deck member supported in a cantilevered configuration over an edge of the deck of the personal watercraft. The deck extender can include mounting sleeves fixed to an upper deck of a personal watercraft with mounting tabs of the deck member received within the mounting sleeves. The deck member can include mounting mechanisms having a receptacle and a pivoting cleat mounted above the receptacle configured for mounting accessories to the deck member. The deck member can have recessed channel members for mounting accessories.

         36 . A personal watercraft, comprising:
 a longitudinal axis extending from a forward end of the personal watercraft to an aft end of the personal watercraft, wherein the longitudinal axis separates a first side of the personal watercraft from a second side of the personal watercraft;   a deck comprising an upper support surface; and   two or more mounting mechanisms disposed along the upper support surface of the deck, wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms extend at least partially laterally outward relative to the longitudinal axis.   
     
     
         37 . The personal watercraft of  claim 36 , wherein the first side and the second side of the personal watercraft comprise the same number of the mounting mechanisms. 
     
     
         38 . The personal watercraft of  claim 36 , wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms extend at least partially in an axial direction relative to the longitudinal axis. 
     
     
         39 . The personal watercraft of  claim 36 , wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms extend laterally outward relative to the longitudinal axis in a direction at least partially toward the aft end of the personal watercraft. 
     
     
         40 . The personal watercraft of  claim 36 , wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms comprise:
 a first mounting mechanism disposed on the first side of the personal watercraft; and   a second mounting mechanism disposed on the second side of the personal watercraft.   
     
     
         41 . The personal watercraft of  claim 40 , wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms further comprise:
 a third mounting mechanism disposed on the first side of the personal watercraft; and   a fourth mounting mechanism disposed on the second side of the personal watercraft.   
     
     
         42 . The personal watercraft of  claim 41 , wherein the third mounting mechanism is axially displaced from the first mounting mechanism and the fourth mounting mechanism is axially displaced from the second mounting mechanism. 
     
     
         43 . The personal watercraft of  claim 36 , wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms mirror each other across the longitudinal axis. 
     
     
         44 . The personal watercraft of  claim 36 , wherein each of the two or more mounting mechanisms is an anchor rail. 
     
     
         45 . The personal watercraft of  claim 36 , wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms are configured to adjustably mount accessories to the deck. 
     
     
         46 . The personal watercraft of  claim 36 , wherein each of the two or more mounting mechanisms comprise:
 a lower support surface;   a first side wall extending at least partially vertically from the lower support surface;   a second side wall extending at least partially vertically from the lower support surface;   a first top wall portion coupled to an end of the first side wall opposite the lower support surface; and   a second top wall portion coupled to an end of the second side wall opposite the lower support surface;   wherein the first top wall portion and the second top wall portion partially enclose a central passage.   
     
     
         47 . The personal watercraft according to  claim 36  further comprising at least one channel member mounted to the deck, the at least one channel member facing upwardly relative to the upper support surface. 
     
     
         48 . A deck for a personal watercraft, comprising:
 a longitudinal axis extending from a forward end of the personal watercraft to an aft end of the personal watercraft;   an upper support surface comprising a first side and a second side separated by the longitudinal axis; and   two or more mounting mechanisms disposed along the upper support surface of the deck, wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms extend at least partially laterally outward relative to the longitudinal axis.   
     
     
         49 . The deck of  claim 48 , wherein the first side and the second side of the personal watercraft comprise the same number of the mounting mechanisms. 
     
     
         50 . The deck of  claim 48 , wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms extend at least partially in an axial direction relative to the longitudinal axis. 
     
     
         51 . The deck of  claim 48 , wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms extend in a direction at least partially toward the aft end of the personal watercraft. 
     
     
         52 . The deck of  claim 48 , wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms comprise:
 a first mounting mechanism disposed on the first side of the personal watercraft; and   a second mounting mechanism disposed on the second side of the personal watercraft.   
     
     
         53 . The deck of  claim 52 , wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms further comprise:
 a third mounting mechanism disposed on the first side of the personal watercraft; and   a fourth mounting mechanism disposed on the second side of the personal watercraft.   
     
     
         54 . The deck of  claim 53 , wherein the third mounting mechanism is axially displaced from the first mounting mechanism and the fourth mounting mechanism is axially displaced from the second mounting mechanism. 
     
     
         55 . The deck of  claim 48 , wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms mirror each other across the longitudinal axis. 
     
     
         56 . The deck of  claim 48 , wherein each of the two or more mounting mechanisms is an anchor rail. 
     
     
         57 . The deck of  claim 48 , wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms are configured to adjustably mount accessories to the deck. 
     
     
         58 . The deck of  claim 48 , wherein each of the two or more mounting mechanisms comprise:
 a lower support surface;   a first side wall extending at least partially vertically from the lower support surface;   a second side wall extending at least partially vertically from the lower support surface;   a first top wall portion coupled to an end of the first side wall opposite the lower support surface; and   a second top wall portion coupled to an end of the second side wall opposite the lower support surface;   wherein the first top wall portion and the second top wall portion partially enclose a central passage.   
     
     
         59 . The deck according to  claim 48  further comprising at least one channel member mounted to the deck, the at least one channel member facing upwardly relative to the upper support surface. 
     
     
         60 . A mounting system for adjustably mounting accessories to a deck of a personal watercraft, the mounting system comprising:
 two or more mounting mechanisms disposed along an upper support surface of the personal watercraft and extending at least partially laterally outward relative to a longitudinal axis separating a first side of the personal watercraft from a second side of the personal watercraft;   wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms extend at least partially in an axial direction relative to the longitudinal axis.   
     
     
         61 . The mounting system of  claim 60 , wherein the first side and the second side of the personal watercraft comprise the same number of the mounting mechanisms. 
     
     
         62 . The mounting system of  claim 60 , wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms extend laterally outward relative to the longitudinal axis in a direction at least partially toward an aft end of the personal watercraft. 
     
     
         63 . The mounting system of  claim 60 , wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms comprise:
 a first mounting mechanism disposed on the first side of the personal watercraft; and   a second mounting mechanism disposed on the second side of the personal watercraft.   
     
     
         64 . The mounting system of  claim 63 , wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms further comprise:
 a third mounting mechanism disposed on the first side of the personal watercraft; and   a fourth mounting mechanism disposed on the second side of the personal watercraft.   
     
     
         65 . The mounting system of  claim 64 , wherein the third mounting mechanism is axially displaced from the first mounting mechanism and the fourth mounting mechanism is axially displaced from the second mounting mechanism. 
     
     
         66 . The mounting system of  claim 60 , wherein the two or more mounting mechanisms mirror each other across the longitudinal axis. 
     
     
         67 . The mounting system of  claim 60 , wherein each of the two or more mounting mechanisms is an anchor rail. 
     
     
         68 . The mounting system of  claim 60 , wherein each of the two or more mounting mechanisms comprise:
 a lower support surface;   a first side wall extending at least partially vertically from the lower support surface;   a second side wall extending at least partially vertically from the lower support surface;   a first top wall portion coupled to an end of the first side wall opposite the lower support surface; and   a second top wall portion coupled to an end of the second side wall opposite the lower support surface;   wherein the first top wall portion and the second top wall portion partially enclose a central passage.   
     
     
         69 . The mounting system according to  claim 60  further comprising at least one channel member mounted to the deck, the at least one channel member facing upwardly relative to the upper support surface.
