Golf club heads and methods to manufacture golf club heads
Abstract
Embodiments of golf club heads, golf clubs, and methods to manufacture golf club heads and golf clubs are generally described herein. In one example a golf club head includes a body portion having an interior portion, an exterior portion, a toe portion with a toe portion edge and a back portion with a back wall portion. The back wall portion includes a first port, a second port on an interior side of the back wall portion, and at least one rib portion on the back wall portion extending outward from a location at or proximate to the first port. The distance between the first port and the toe portion edge is greater than a distance between the second port and the toe portion edge. The at least one rib portion extends between the first port and the second port. Other examples and embodiments may be described and claimed.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A golf club head comprising:
a hollow body portion comprising an interior portion, an exterior portion, a toe portion with a toe portion edge, a heel portion with a heel portion edge, a front portion, a back portion with a back wall portion, a top portion with a top portion edge, a sole portion with a sole portion edge, the back wall portion comprising:
a first port connecting the exterior portion to the interior portion;
a second port defined by a recess on an interior side of the back wall portion; and
at least one rib portion on the back wall portion extending outward from a location at or proximate to the first port, the at least one rib portion having a rib portion length, a rib portion height, and a rib portion width;
a face portion coupled to the front portion; and a filler material in the interior portion of the hollow body portion, wherein a distance between the first port and the toe portion edge is greater than a distance between the second port and the toe portion edge, and wherein the at least one rib portion extends between the first port and the second port.
2 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 further comprising a third port on the hollow body portion connecting the exterior portion to the interior portion, wherein the filler material is injected into the interior portion of the hollow body portion from at least one of the first port or the third port.
3 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the rib portion height or the rib portion width is greater than or equal to 0.020 inch (0.508 mm) and less than or equal to 0.150 inch (3.810 mm).
4 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the hollow body portion comprises a first material having a first density, and wherein the filler material comprises a second material having a second density less than the first density.
5 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the rib portion height varies along the rib portion length.
6 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the rib portion width varies along the rib portion length.
7 . A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the filler material is injected into the interior portion of the hollow body portion from the first port.
8 . A golf club head comprising:
a hollow body portion having a volume of less than or equal to 100 cubic centimeters, the hollow body portion comprising an interior portion, an exterior portion, a first material having a first density, a toe portion with a toe portion edge, a heel portion with a heel portion edge, a front portion including a face portion, a back portion with a back wall portion, a top portion with a top portion edge, and a sole portion with a sole portion edge, the back wall portion comprising:
a port connecting the exterior portion to the interior portion;
a mass portion coupled to an interior side of the back wall portion at or proximate to the toe portion edge, the mass portion comprising a second material having a second density greater than the first density; and
at least one rib portion on the back wall portion extending outward from a location at or proximate to the port, the at least one rib portion comprising a rib portion length, a rib portion height, and a rib portion width; and
a filler material in the interior portion of the hollow body portion, wherein the at least one rib portion is located between the port and the mass portion, and wherein at least one of the rib portion height or the rib portion width varies along the rib portion length.
9 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the mass portion has a non-cylindrical shape.
10 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein at least a portion of the mass portion comprises a shape corresponding to a shape of the toe portion edge.
11 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the hollow body portion comprises a steel-based material, and wherein the mass portion comprises a tungsten-based material.
12 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the mass portion is a first mass portion, wherein the golf club head comprises a second mass portion, and wherein the port is configured to receive the second mass portion.
13 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the mass portion is a first mass portion, wherein the golf club head comprises a second mass portion having a different shape than the first mass portion.
14 . A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the rib portion height or the rib portion width is greater than or equal to 0.020 inch (0.508 mm) and less than or equal to 0.150 inch (3.810 mm).
15 . A golf club comprising:
a shaft having a first end and a second end; a grip coupled to the first end; and a golf club head coupled to the second end, the golf club head comprising:
a hollow body portion comprising an interior portion, an exterior portion, a toe portion with a toe portion edge, a heel portion with a heel portion edge, a front portion including a face portion, a back portion with a back wall portion, a top portion with a top portion edge, and a sole portion with a sole portion edge, the back wall portion comprising:
a first port connecting the exterior portion to the interior portion;
a second port connecting the exterior portion to the interior portion;
