Abstract
A bolt carrier assembly having a bolt carrier with at least one gas exit hole located at the bottom of the bolt carrier so as to allow the passage of gas generated from a discharged round of ammunition downward into the magazine and magazine well of a firearm, away from the user.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A bolt carrier configured to be received in an upper receiver defining a passage and having an ejection port on a first lateral side, the bolt carrier comprising:
a body defining a bore; a bolt in the bore; the bolt carrier defining a first gas passage communicating with the bore; the gas passage extending in a downward direction; and the gas passage having an exit aperture at a lower portion of the bolt carrier.
2 . A bolt carrier comprising:
a body defining a bore; a bolt in the bore; the bolt carrier defining a first gas passage communicating with the bore; the gas passage extending in a downward direction; and the gas passage having an exit aperture at a lower portion of the bolt carrier.
3 . The bolt carrier of claim 2 where the exit aperture is proximate to a magazine well.
4 . The bolt carrier of claim 2 where the passage is forward of a gas ring on the bolt.
5 . The bolt carrier of claim 2 including plurality of gas passages communicating with the bore.
6 . The bolt carrier of claim 2 where the exit aperture is away from an ejection port when the bolt carrier is inserted into a rifle.
7 . The bolt carrier of claim 2 where the second passage is rearward of the first gas passage.
8 . The bolt carrier of claim 2 where the second gas passage rearward of the gas ring.
9 . The bolt carrier of claim 2 wherein the bolt has a gas ring sealably interfacing the bore,
and wherein the bolt is operable to move from a forward position to a rearward position,
and wherein the gas passage is located forward of a location of the gas ring when the bolt is in the rearward position and rearward of the gas ring when the bolt is in the forward position.
10 . A firearm comprising:
a frame having an ejection port and defining a bolt passage; a bolt carrier received in the bolt passage; a body defining a bore; a bolt in the bore; a bolt carrier defining a first gas passage communicating with the bore; and the gas passage extending in a downward direction and having exit apertures at a lower portion of the bolt carrier.
11 . The bolt carrier of claim 10 where passages exit aperture terminate near mag well.
12 . The bolt carrier of claim 10 where the passage is forward of a gas ring on the bolt.
13 . The bolt carrier of claim 10 where the plurality of gas passages.
14 . The bolt carrier of claim 10 where the exit aperture away from ejection port.
15 . The bolt carrier of claim 10 where the second passage is rearward of the first gas passage.
16 . The bolt carrier of claim 10 where the second gas passage is rearward of the gas ring.
17 . A breech bolt assembly comprising of:
a bolt carrier being an elongated body having a top side and bottom side, a left side and right side, and defining a bolt section, hammer section, and end section; said body having an exterior and a central bore along a central bore axis; said bolt section having a bolt head end, a bolt body section, and a bolt tail end section; the bolt body section defining a bolt body channel and a gas ring channel; the bolt tail end defining a boat tail channel and a carrier firing pin channel; the bolt body channel, gas ring channel, bolt tail channel, and carrier firing pin channel aligned along the central bore axis; the bottom side of the bolt section defining a left groove and a right groove with a boss in between, and at least one bottom gas channel traversing from the exterior to the central bore; a bolt; and a carrier gas key.
18 . The breech bolt assembly of claim 17 where the bottom side of the bolt section has a first bottom channel traversing from the exterior to the bolt body channel, and a second bottom channel traversing from the exterior to the boat tail channel.
19 . The breech bolt assembly of claim 17 where the bottom side of the bolt section has a bottom channel traversing from the exterior of the left groove to the bolt body channel, a bottom channel traversing from the exterior of the left groove to the bolt tail channel, a bottom channel traversing from the exterior of the right groove to the bolt body channel, and a bottom channel traversing from the exterior of the right groove to the bolt tail channel.
