Fence Post Covers

Abstract

Fence post covers for toolless mounting on vertical fence posts to enhance the overall aesthetic appearance of fences and to enhance the safety of those who might inadvertently come into contact with such fence posts. Fence post covers feature an elongate hollow body having a lateral wall enclosure forming a lumen with a central cavity having one or more slits formed along opposing sides of at least a portion of a length of the lateral wall, the slits configured to receive one or more strands of barbed wire attached to a T-post.

I claim: 
     
         1 . A fence post cover comprising:
 an elongate hollow body having a lateral wall enclosure forming a lumen with a central cavity, said elongate hollow body having an enclosed top end and an open bottom end;   a first slit formed on a first side of said lateral wall of said elongate hollow body; and   a second slit formed on a second side of said lateral wall of said elongate hollow body, said second slit being formed on said second side of said lateral wall of said elongate hollow body opposite to said first slit.   
     
     
         2 . The fence post cover of  claim 1 , further comprising a removable cap attached to said top end of said elongate hollow body. 
     
     
         3 . The fence post cover of  claim 1 , wherein each of said first slit and said second slit have a slit opening having a thickness configured to mate with a correspondingly sized portion of barbed wire. 
     
     
         4 . The fence post cover of  claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of an outer surface of said elongate hollow body is colored purple. 
     
     
         5 . The fence post cover of  claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of an outer surface of said elongate hollow body is colored with a high visibility substance. 
     
     
         6 . The fence post cover of  claim 1 , wherein said first slit and said second slit each have respective lengths greater than one half of an overall length of said elongate hollow body.
