Abstract

A harness comprises a pair of adjustable shoulder straps, each having a back portion that extends downwardly from a user's shoulders and then crisscrosses at the user's back and has a front portion that rests on the user's shoulders and that extends from the user's shoulders downwardly across the user's chest. The shoulder straps terminate in respective front right and left and back right and left load attachment points that secure a respective first load and second to the harness and that distribute the load evenly front-to-back on the user's left and right shoulders. The shoulder straps when respectively attached to the first and second loads also effect side-to-side balance of the load on the user's shoulders.

I/we claim:

         1 . A harness, comprising:
 a pair of adjustable shoulder straps; and a padded back support; wherein each of said adjustable shoulder straps comprises a back portion that initially extends substantially downwardly from a user's shoulders and then crisscrosses at the user's back before terminating at a back load attachment point; wherein each of said shoulder straps comprises a padded front portion that rests on the user's shoulders and that extends from the user's shoulders substantially downwardly across the user's chest before terminating at a front load attachment point; wherein the adjustable shoulder straps define respective front right and left and back right and left load attachment points; and wherein the back portions of said shoulder straps are joined to the padded back support at least at a point at which they crisscross; an adjustable chest support comprising a first segment attached to an upper front portion a first of said shoulder straps and a second segment attached to an upper front portion a second of said shoulder straps, said first and second chest support segments terminating in an engagement member that is operable to join the first and second chest support segments to hold the first and second shoulder straps together in a fixed configuration to take up slack and prevent the harness from slipping from the user's body; wherein the shoulder straps and chest strap maintain a secure engagement of the harness with the user.

         2 . The harness of claim 1 , wherein the back right and front right load attachment points are configured to cooperatively secure a first load to the harness and to distribute the load evenly front-to-back on the user's right shoulder; and
 wherein the back left and front left load attachment points are configured to cooperatively secure a second load to the harness and to distribute the load evenly front-to-back on the user's left shoulder.

         3 . The harness of claim 2 , wherein the shoulder straps when respectively attached to the first and second loads effect side-to-side balance of the load on the user's shoulders.

         4 . The harness of claim 1 , said attachment points further comprising any of loops, clips, or hooks.

         5 . The harness of claim 1 , said chest support engagement member comprising any of a fastener a buckle or clip.

         6 . The harness of claim 1 , wherein a detachable bucket, bag, or other container is suspended from the load attachment points when the harness is in use.

         7 . The harness of claim 1 , wherein the back right, front right, back left, and front left load attachment points are configured to each secure a separate load to the harness.

         8 . The harness of claim 1 , one or more of said shoulder straps further comprising:
 one or more pockets.

         9 . The harness of claim 1 , further comprising:
 a hanger with which the harness is hung on a hook or rack for storage.

         10 . The harness of claim 1 , wherein the straps and back support are made of any of nylon and canvas.

         11 . The harness of claim 1 , wherein shoulder strap and back support padding are made of any of foam, gel, or cotton.

         12 . The harness of  claim 1 , wherein the shoulder straps contact an outside surface of the back support;
 wherein the back support absorbs and cushions pressure exerted on the user's back by the shoulder straps and mitigates impact of the load carried by user.
