Abstract

An aerosol-generating article is provided, including: an upstream element; an aerosol-forming substrate in an aerosol-forming substrate portion, the aerosol-forming substrate portion being located downstream of the upstream element; and a substrate wrapper at least partly circumscribing the aerosol-forming substrate portion, the substrate wrapper not extending beyond ends of the aerosol-forming substrate portion in a longitudinal direction of the aerosol-generating article, and the substrate wrapper having a thickness of 90 micrometers or more. An aerosol-generating system including the aerosol-generating article and an aerosol-generating device is also provided.

         15 . An aerosol-generating article, comprising:
 an upstream element;   an aerosol-forming substrate in an aerosol-forming substrate portion, wherein the aerosol-forming substrate portion is located downstream of the upstream element; and   a substrate wrapper at least partly circumscribing the aerosol-forming substrate portion,   wherein the substrate wrapper does not extend beyond ends of the aerosol-forming substrate portion in a longitudinal direction of the aerosol-generating article, and   wherein the substrate wrapper has a thickness of 90 micrometers or more.   
     
     
         16 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 15 , wherein the substrate wrapper has a thickness of 100 micrometers or more. 
     
     
         17 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 15 , wherein the substrate wrapper has a thickness of between 140 micrometers and 155 micrometers. 
     
     
         18 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 15 , wherein a ratio of substrate wrapper thickness to aerosol-forming substrate portion diameter is in a range from about 1:120 to about 1:20, or about 1:100 to about 1:30, or about 1:80 to about 1:35, or about 1:60 to about 1:40. 
     
     
         19 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 15 , wherein the upstream element is located at a distal end of the aerosol-generating article. 
     
     
         20 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 15 , wherein the aerosol-forming substrate portion is located directly adjacent to the upstream element. 
     
     
         21 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 15 , wherein a ratio of substrate wrapper thickness to upstream element diameter is in a range from 0.007 to 0.03. 
     
     
         22 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 15 , wherein a ratio of substrate wrapper thickness to upstream element diameter is in a range from 0.022 to 0.024. 
     
     
         23 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 15 , wherein an outer diameter of the upstream element differs from an outer diameter of the substrate wrapper circumscribing the aerosol-forming substrate portion by less than 5 percent. 
     
     
         24 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 15 , wherein an outer diameter of the upstream element differs from an outer diameter of the substrate wrapper circumscribing the aerosol-forming substrate portion by less than 1 percent. 
     
     
         25 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 23 , wherein the outer diameter of the upstream element is 7.1 millimeters. 
     
     
         26 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 15 , wherein the upstream element is in a form of a full cylinder. 
     
     
         27 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 15 , wherein the upstream element comprises a filter material. 
     
     
         28 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 15 , wherein the upstream element is circumscribed by an upstream element wrapper. 
     
     
         29 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 28 , wherein a ratio of a thickness of the upstream element wrapper to a thickness of the substrate wrapper is 0.7 or less. 
     
     
         30 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 28 , wherein a ratio of a thickness of the upstream element wrapper to a thickness of the substrate wrapper is 0.2 or less. 
     
     
         31 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 15 , wherein a length of the upstream element in a longitudinal direction of the aerosol-generating article is between 1 millimeter and 10 millimeters. 
     
     
         32 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 15 , wherein a resistance-to-draw of the upstream element is between 1 millimeter of water gauge and 20 millimeters of water gauge in accordance with ISO 6565-2015. 
     
     
         33 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 15 , wherein a resistance-to-draw of the upstream element is between about 10 millimeters of water gauge or less in accordance with ISO 6565-2015. 
     
     
         34 . An aerosol-generating system comprising the aerosol-generating article according to  claim 15  and an aerosol-generating device comprising a heating chamber configured for at least partly inserting the aerosol-generating article into the heating chamber.
