Torsion-Resistant Support Straps for Slip Dresses and other Clothing

Abstract

New forms of stabilized support straps for clothing, and methods for their use, are provided. In some embodiments, a new form of torsion-resistant, flat-profile strap is provided. Such a torsion-resistant, flat-profile shoulder strap is provided for women's dresses, including a set of torsion-stabilizing members, placed in a pattern, and spaced apart by intervals having torsion-reducing effects. In some embodiments, such torsion-stabilizing members include a torsion-resistant shape which, in combination with the pattern in which they are placed on the underside of the strap, substantially prevents twisting of the strap. In some embodiments, aspects of the present application are applied in the context of long dresses, such as slip dresses. However, as will be apparent to those of skill in the art, aspects of the present inventions are more widely applicable, to other types of clothing straps and even support straps used in other contexts (e.g., luggage).

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . An anti-torsion clothing strap, comprising:
 a main body, including an at least generally flattened profile and an underside configured to interface with an outer surface of a user's body;   an underside of said main body, comprising:
 a set of anti-torsion stabilizing members, arranged in a pattern on said underside; 
   wherein each of said anti-torsion stabilizing members are separated from abutting anti-torsion stabilizing members by interstitial spaces.   
     
     
         2 . The anti-torsion clothing strap of  claim 1 , wherein said interstitial spaces are uniform. 
     
     
         3 . The anti-torsion clothing strap of  claim 1 , wherein said interstitial spaces are each a one-quarter inch space. 
     
     
         4 . The anti-torsion clothing strap of  claim 1 , wherein said interstitial spaces are approximately a one-quarter inch space. 
     
     
         5 . The anti-torsion clothing strap of  claim 1 , wherein each of the anti-torsion stabilizing members is one-half inch long. 
     
     
         6 . The anti-torsion clothing strap of  claim 1 , wherein each of the anti-torsion stabilizing members is approximately one-half inch long. 
     
     
         7 . The anti-torsion clothing strap of  claim 1 , wherein each of the anti-torsion stabilizing members is one-eight inch wide. 
     
     
         8 . The anti-torsion clothing strap of  claim 1 , wherein each of the anti-torsion stabilizing members is approximately one-eight inch wide. 
     
     
         9 . The anti-torsion clothing strap of  claim 1 , wherein each of the anti-torsion stabilizing members is approximately 1 millimeter thick. 
     
     
         10 . The anti-torsion clothing strap of  claim 1 , wherein each of the anti-torsion stabilizing members comprises silicone. 
     
     
         11 . The anti-torsion clothing strap of  claim 10 , wherein each of the anti-torsion stabilizing members is attached to or integral with the underside and the main body. 
     
     
         12 . The anti-torsion clothing strap of  claim 11 , wherein each of the anti-torsion stabilizing members is attached to or integral with the underside and the main body by heat fusion. 
     
     
         13 . The anti-torsion clothing strap of  claim 1 , wherein each of the anti-torsion stabilizing members is, or generally is, rectangular. 
     
     
         14 . The anti-torsion clothing strap of  claim 1 , wherein each of the anti-torsion stabilizing members comprises rounded ends. 
     
     
         15 . The anti-torsion clothing strap of  claim 1 , wherein the main body comprises silk. 
     
     
         16 . The anti-torsion clothing strap of  claim 1 , wherein the main body comprises at least one ply of material made of silk. 
     
     
         17 . The anti-torsion clothing strap of  claim 1 , wherein the main body comprises at least two plies of material made of silk. 
     
     
         18 . The anti-torsion clothing strap of  claim 1 , wherein the main body is lined with interfacing.
