Abstract

A secondary barrier is used adjacent a pump of a pumping unit that is in fluid communication with a wellbore services manifold system having a ballistic barrier. The secondary barrier includes a first portion configured to be disposed in proximity to a fluid end of the pump and configured to be disposed between the fluid end of the pump and a power end of an adjacent pumping unit pump, and a second portion configured to face the ballistic barrier and the wellbore services manifold system.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A secondary barrier for use adjacent a pump of a pumping unit that is in fluid communication with a wellbore services manifold system having a ballistic barrier, the secondary barrier comprising:
a first portion configured to be disposed in proximity to a fluid end of the pump and configured to be disposed between the fluid end of the pump and a power end of an adjacent pumping unit pump; and a second portion configured to face the ballistic barrier and the wellbore services manifold system.

2 . The secondary barrier of claim 1 , wherein the secondary barrier is less protective than the ballistic barrier, and wherein the secondary barrier and the ballistic barrier differ in material or thickness.

3 . The secondary barrier of claim 1 , further comprising a shielded work platform, wherein the first portion and the second portion are disposed on the shielded work platform.

4 . The secondary barrier of claim 3 , wherein the shielded work platform further comprises a cover.

5 . The secondary barrier of claim 3 , wherein the shielded work platform further comprises an elevated base.

6 . The secondary barrier of claim 3 , wherein the shielded work platform is configured to provide access to the fluid end of the pump for a worker on the shielded work platform.

7 . The secondary barrier of claim 5 , further comprising a set of stairs leading to the elevated base.

8 . The secondary barrier of claim 5 , wherein the elevated base comprises a lift component.

9 . The secondary barrier of claim 1 , wherein the secondary barrier is configured to be positioned in an array of other secondary barriers.

10 . The secondary barrier of claim 1 , wherein the secondary barrier is configured to be positioned in a line of other secondary barriers that is aligned with the ballistic barrier.

11 . The secondary barrier of claim 9 , wherein the secondary barrier and the other secondary barriers are identical.

12 . The secondary barrier of claim 5 , further comprising a roof disposed above the elevated base.

13 . The secondary barrier of claim 12 , wherein the first portion, the second portion, and the roof are configured to enclose a worker.

14 . The secondary barrier of claim 1 , wherein the first portion is longer than the second portion.

15 . The secondary barrier of claim 12 , wherein a length of the first portion is equal to a length of the roof, and a width of the second portion is equal to a width of the roof.

16 . A method for performing maintenance on a pump of a pumping unit fluidly coupled to a wellbore services manifold system, comprising:
disposing a ballistic barrier between the wellbore services manifold system and the pumping unit; disposing a secondary barrier on a same side of the ballistic barrier as the pumping unit, adjacent to the pump, wherein the secondary barrier comprises:
a first portion disposed in proximity to a fluid end of the pump and disposed between the fluid end of the pump and a power end of an adjacent pumping unit pump; and
 a second portion configured to face the ballistic barrier and the wellbore services manifold system;
remotely isolating the pump from the wellbore services manifold system; remotely bleeding off fluid from the isolated pump; and performing maintenance on the pump in situ while the pump remains connected to the wellbore services manifold system.

17 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising remotely re-priming the pump, remotely re-establishing fluid communication between the pump and the wellbore services manifold system, and providing pressurized fluid from the pump to the wellbore services manifold system.

18 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising performing maintenance on the pump while other pumps continue to provide pressurized fluid to the wellbore services manifold system.

19 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the performing of the maintenance comprises performing maintenance on the fluid end of the pump without physically disconnecting the pump and without removing the pump from proximity to the wellbore services manifold system.

20 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising supplying fluid, by the pump, to the wellbore services manifold system and into a well.
