Abstract

A filtration device includes a barrier member having a plurality of openings that are penetrable by water, the barrier member having a water redirecting feature, and an ion-dispersing member. The ion-dispersing member is configured to be located a first distance in a downstream waterflow direction from the water redirecting feature, and the first distance is configured to extend beyond mechanical waterproofing of the barrier member caused by the ion-dispersing member.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A gutter guard for filtering water that enters a rain gutter on a building, the gutter guard comprising:
 a barrier member configured to be positioned above a lowest portion of the rain gutter and having a plurality of openings that are penetrable by water, the barrier member having
 a water redirecting feature, and 
 an ion-dispersing member, 
   wherein the ion-dispersing member is configured to be located a first distance in a downstream waterflow direction from the water redirecting feature, and   the first distance is configured to extend beyond mechanical waterproofing of the barrier member caused by the ion-dispersing member.   
     
     
         2 . The gutter guard of  claim 1 , wherein the barrier member is a single-layer mesh comprising first members that extend along a first direction and second members that extend along a second direction that is non-parallel to the first direction. 
     
     
         3 . The gutter guard of  claim 2 , wherein the ion-dispersing member extends along the second direction. 
     
     
         4 . The gutter guard of  claim 3 , wherein the water redirecting feature is a channel formed in the barrier member. 
     
     
         5 . The gutter guard of  claim 1 , wherein the water redirecting feature is a channel formed in the barrier member. 
     
     
         6 . The gutter guard of  claim 1 , wherein the ion-dispersing member comprises a strand of an ion-dispersing material. 
     
     
         7 . The gutter guard of  claim 6 , wherein the first distance is at least as great as three times a distance in which the ion-dispersing member extends in the waterflow direction. 
     
     
         8 . The gutter guard of  claim 1 , wherein the ion-dispersing member comprises a plurality of strands of an ion-dispersing material. 
     
     
         9 . The gutter guard of  claim 1 , wherein the first distance is at least as great as three times a distance in which the ion-dispersing member extends in the waterflow direction. 
     
     
         10 . The gutter guard of  claim 6 , wherein the first distance is at least as great as three times a distance in which the ion-dispersing member extends in the waterflow direction. 
     
     
         11 . The gutter guard of  claim 1 , wherein the barrier member further comprises
 a second water redirecting feature, and   a second ion-dispersing member,   wherein the second ion-dispersing member is configured to be located a second distance in the downstream waterflow direction from the second water redirecting feature, and   the second distance is configured to extend beyond mechanical waterproofing of the barrier member caused by the second ion-dispersing member.   
     
     
         12 . A filtration device, comprising:
 a barrier member having a plurality of openings that are penetrable by water, the barrier member having
 a water redirecting feature, and 
 an ion-dispersing member, 
   wherein the ion-dispersing member is configured to be located a first distance in a downstream waterflow direction from the water redirecting feature, and   the first distance is configured to extend beyond mechanical waterproofing of the barrier member caused by the ion-dispersing member.   
     
     
         13 . The filtration device of  claim 12 , wherein the barrier member is a single-layer mesh comprising first members that extend along a first direction and second members that extend along a second direction that is non-parallel to the first direction. 
     
     
         14 . The filtration device of  claim 13 , wherein the ion-dispersing member extends along the second direction. 
     
     
         15 . The filtration device of  claim 14 , wherein the water redirecting feature is a channel formed in the barrier member. 
     
     
         16 . The filtration device of  claim 12 , wherein the ion-dispersing member comprises a strand of an ion-dispersing material. 
     
     
         17 . The filtration device of  claim 16 , wherein the first distance is at least as great as three times a distance in which the ion-dispersing member extends in the waterflow direction. 
     
     
         18 . The filtration device of  claim 12 , wherein the ion-dispersing member comprises a plurality of strands of an ion-dispersing material. 
     
     
         19 . The filtration device of  claim 12 , wherein the first distance is at least as great as three times a distance in which the ion-dispersing member extends in the waterflow direction. 
     
     
         20 . The filtration device of  claim 12 , wherein the barrier member further comprises a second water redirecting feature, and
 a second ion-dispersing member,   wherein the second ion-dispersing member is configured to be located a second distance in the downstream waterflow direction from the second water redirecting feature, and   the second distance is configured to extend beyond mechanical waterproofing of the barrier member caused by the second ion-dispersing member.
